“Return To Malice” was a tricky bit of business. Taken on its own, it’s clearly my least favorite of the first four installments. It is, however, one that is going to age very well, and will improve greatly when taken as a part of the entirety of season four. Months from now, when we’re all burning through the grooves on the DVD set, the saga of 21 will be a stand out moment. Read the rest of this entry »

Things keep moving along at a breakneck pace, and in a rather surprising way. If you had told me a month ago that episode two would be Brock free, and episode three would find him relegated to a silent cameo in the opening scene, I might have been a little worried. I certainly wouldn’t have thought that I’d be pondering whether or not this is the best Venture Bros. has been. But that’s where we are. Between the Venture compound being mistaken for a religious cult, Dean’s introduction to prog-rock and big-boy science, and the deepening rift between Rusty and Hank, “Perchance To Dean” was another excellent outing. The fact that last week’s incredible premiere totally left out two of the best characters on the show really speaks to just how good  Venture Bros is. Even better, that situation was remedied this week with “Handsome Ransom” as The Monarch and Dr. Mrs. The Monarch made their return. Also along for the ride were Pete White, Master Billy, and an entire new Action Team to have fun with. That team was, of course, led by Captain Sunshine, who provided the basis for a positively Waynesian romp. Read the rest of this entry »

Those that were fortunate enough to witness the premiere of the Venture Bros. season 4 trailer at Comic-Con are probably still reeling from the impact. Home viewers, the trailer is finally online, and you have the benefit of seeing it on a small screen, lessening the chances of overdosing on awesome. Plus, there’s been some exciting news from the creators, Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer.

Venture Bros.

Boom! Yummy. Yet another great DVD from The Venture Bros. On a scale from “1″ to “Awesome,” I can confidently rate this collection “Swinging Cartoon Penis,” because that’s pretty much all you’re going to remember after watching this.

All right, let me just talk about this and get it out of the way. There were a few times while watching the uncensored DVDs that I actually threw my hands towards the screen and half-laughed, half-screamed, “Why!?,” startling everyone around me. Have you ever wondered what super-old Colonel Gentleman or terribly calloused Ned look like without pants? Well, you’re going to find out, whether you like it or not. The language is also uncensored, but you’re probably going to be too distracted by the unnecessary views of balls from behind to notice. Those Korean animators love detail.

I’ll admit right up-front that I’ve never watched The Venture Bros. before. However, when I went to grab the DVD artwork for this post, I had to do a double-take. Is that really as awesome as I think it is? Oh yes, it is. The Venture Bros. season three DVD case is in retro Atari game style packaging! I may just have to get to watching this show after all. Incidentally, the Blu-ray version is the same thing only blue instead of orange … sorry, “Blu.”

We’re giving away three copies of this set to random commenters to this post. One of those copies is Blu-ray, so make sure you mention your preference when you comment. Also, tell us why you’d like to own the set.
