rescue-me-season-five-finale

An excellent season of hilarious, intense and zany episodes concluded in less than satisfying, but more than appropriate fashion. Teddy, who was a nonentity for months, magically reappeared a couple weeks ago. Much to my dismay, he ended up being significant to the Tommy Gavin character arc. Even though I disliked Teddy this go around, I can see why the writers pegged him to play the bad guy (or good guy, depending on how you want to look at it). So, what the hell happened in the Rescue Me finale?

TV on DVD for September 1st

Brett Love on September 1st, 2009 3:00 PM

I’ll never understand the thought process behind TV on DVD release dates. Why do so many of them end up coming out just weeks before the new season starts? After everyone just had a whole summer with a drastically reduced television schedule. Shouldn’t there really be a flood of new season sets in May and June? Whatever the case … as has become the norm, with the new seasons approaching we have a bunch of current shows releasing new sets. Among those you’ll find Supernatural, Heroes, Two And A Half Men, The Game, Brothers & Sisters, Desperate Housewives, Rescue Me, and CSI. My pick for the week actually isn’t even a TV show. It’s the latest Bring It On movie, Fight To The Finish. I’ll explain that, and have the rest of the releases, after the jump.

Rescue Me's Callie ThorneHighlights of the Week

  • Rescue Me totally redeemed itself in this, its longest season ever. After 22 solid episodes, where we saw the Gavin clan fall completely off the wagon. Is Teddy’s wife a goner? And what about Janet/Sheila/Tommy? That can’t end well. (Tue. 10pm, FX)
  • With the fall season fast approaching, FOX is hedging their bets that So You Think You Can Dance will perform as well there as it does in the summer. To get you pumped up, this week they’re offering “The Best Of…” (Wed. 8pm, FOX)
  • Season 3/Chapter 5 of Greek kicks off this week by bringing us “The Day After.” Casey’s rejected, Max is gone and what’s Rusty to do? (Mon. 9pm, ABC Family)
  • HBO’s new comedy, Bored to Death, actually looks pretty good. It’s about a writer who becomes a P.I. and stars Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson and Zach Galifianakis. The cast is enough for me to check it out. This week, they’re sneak-peeking it with a “Making Of” special. (Tue. 10:45pm)
  • The story of Ruby’s weight-loss journey has inspired millions. This week, we say goodbye to her second season as she speaks at a summer weight-loss camp for kids. Her finale is followed by Too Fat for 15, which looks at a kid struggling at 450 pounds. (Sun. 8pm, Style)

Rescue Me – Sweet Lou

Lou-Rescue-Me

They are attempting to tie up all the loose ends on Rescue Me. Next week’s finale promises to be a doozy, I think. Last night they put to bed the Franco and Mike story threads. Why the writers dropped Franco’s 9/11 subplot and replaced it with an uninspired boxing angle is still a mystery. He fought a lesbian chick. Yawn. As for Mike’s ridiculous musical pursuits, well… I never gave a shit.

Let’s discuss the stuff that matters. Tommy’s infatuation with Kelly, Lou’s vengeance against Candy and the plethora of alcoholics permeating the extended family of 62 Truck.

Ten questions about Rescue Me

Scott Tunstall on August 19th, 2009 9:00 AM

Two episodes to go in Rescue Me’s fifth season. How will it all end? That’s the million-dollar question, but it’s not the only one I have, as we drive toward the finale. It’s been a topsy-turvy ride for Tommy Gavin, even more so than usual. Yeah, he’s pretty much dealing with the same problems he has for the last four years — drinking, love triangle, memories of 9/11, kids growing up. However, the heat has been turned up to an unsafe temperature. I could be mistaken, but it seems like Tommy is about to explode.

I got plenty more queries to ponder. A few have nothing to do with Tommy. Here they are: Read the rest of this entry »

Season five is winding down. Only two episodes remain in what has been a major comeback for Rescue Me. After a deplorable fourth season, the series looked to have run out of steam. A 19 month hiatus is just what the TV doctor ordered. As the end nears, I can’t help but feel the other shoe is about to drop. Tommy Gavin may appear calm on the outside, but he is spiraling out of control. Jimmy’s visits are becoming more and more frequent, which isn’t benefiting Tommy’s mental health. My sense is Jimmy is a harbinger of bad news.

WARNING! If you dislike guy humor involving junk, sausage, peckers, cocks, balls, penises, trouser snakes, and/or schlongs, then this probably isn’t for you. The immature boys of 62 Truck engaged in what might be their finest juvenile romp in the five-year history of Rescue Me.

Yeah, I laughed out loud the whole damn time. My girl just eyed me with a look of half contempt, half disappointment. Just between you and me, I caught her suppressing a smile. She’d never admit to it, but I know what I saw. Enough of my rambling. It’s time to talk about Garrity’s cock.
