Just like that, the 2008-2009 season is done. We are now firmly in the grips of the summer television season. That means there will be a months long wait (10 if you’re a Chuck fan!) for new episodes. On the bright side, you’ll have plenty of time to watch the Women’s College World Series (Danielle Lawrie is awesome!) or the French Open (I’ve got Nadal and Safina). Or maybe you’ll join me in reading World War Z (Zombies!). Before you get started on that fancy new summer schedule, we have one last week of numbers to take a look at.

FOX - It was the biggie, so let’s begin with Idol. There was a fair bit of chatter about how the numbers were down for the Idol finale, but let’s be realistic. The final performance show (23.82m/8.6), and the big finale announcement (28.84m/10), were so far ahead of everything else on TV that it doesn’t even matter. Consider that only two other shows, 2 ½ Men and Dancing With The Stars, were even able to crack 5 in the demo. Even in a ‘down’ year, Idol is far and away the number one show on television.

Elsewhere, the Sunday animation block got the week off to a slow start. Perhaps it was the presence of the Survivor and Housewives finales. Simpsons (5.85m/2.9), King Of The Hill (5.22m/2.6), Family Guy (7.35m/3.7), and American Dad (5.64m/2.8) were all down a bit. That theme continued on Monday. 24 (9.65m/3.1) missed having Dr. House at 8. Tuesday did bring some good news, in addition to Idol. Glee (9.62m/3.9) premiered to critical raves and managed to post what I would call very Fringe-like numbers. The kids from So You Think You Can Dance (8.47m/3.4) kicked off the FOX summer on Thursday, winning the night in the demo. And Friday, Don’t Forget The Lyrics (3.4m/1) made its return to Friday, with very Dollhouse looking numbers.

ABC - As with FOX, ABC’s final week was carried by their reality powerhouse. Dancing With The Stars remains a legitimate hit, posting excellent numbers for Monday’s performance show (19.17m/4.4), and the big Tuesday finale (20.31m/5.2). Tom and Samantha passed the Monday keys off to The Bachelorette (8.69m/3) which was below where The Bachelor left off. However, as we saw with that one, casting is everything.

Elsewhere, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (9.27m/3.1) and Desperate Housewives (13.96m/4.7) wrapped things up on Sunday. Those numbers are down year to year, and it is the lowest rated Housewives finale ever, but still solid. The only other programming of note was the two hour finale of Ugly Betty (6.27m/1.9).

CBS – Not to be outdone, CBS had a big reality finale of their own as Survivor wrapped up with the final episode (12.94m/4.2) and the reunion show (11.58m/4.1) on Sunday. The week continued with Rules of Engagement illustrating just what the power of a good lead-in will do: Rules Of Engagement (7.49m/2.7), How I Met Your Mother (8.73m/3.7), 2 ½ Men (16.18m/5.3), Rules Of Engagement (12.87m/4.4). Having watched both episodes, I can assure you, the second one wasn’t 5 million viewers better. CSI: Miami (14.19m/3.8) finished Monday with their finale. That demo number is an interesting one, as it is .4 better than the original CSI managed with its finale. Could it be that Horatio is now the top dog in the CSI universe?

Good news continued Tuesday as NCIS (16.51m/3.4) continues to hold up amazingly well against Idol. Likewise, The Mentalist (16.82m/3.7) was just fine up against DWTS. Without A Trace (11.21m/2.5) wasn’t quite as successful, and can now be added to the list of shows that entered Tuesday @ 10 and never made it back out. The short week wrapped up on Wednesday with uneventful finales from Old Christine (5.55m/1.6) and Gary Unmarried (5.52m/1.7), and another solid cliffhanger from Criminal Minds (13.99m/3.5).

NBC - It was what I would call a bizarro reversal week for the peacock. Next season there will be no scripted programming in the 10PM slot, as the network is going all Jay, all the time. Last week, the only new scripted programming was at 10PM. It wasn’t a good week. The highlight was Law & Order:SVU (6.92m/2.5) on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that highlight was the lowest rated SVU ever. The original L&O (6.66m/2) wasn’t any better on Wednesday. Medium (6.56m/1.9) made its final NBC appearance on Monday. Look for that viewer number to jump by a good two million when the show moves to Friday on CBS. Finally, Southland (6.45m/1.9) finished its inaugural season. Don’t look for those numbers to improve on the NBC Friday.

CW - It was a short week, with only four hours of new programming. Gossip Girl (2.33m/1.1) went out with a steady number. Their partner in crime, One Tree Hill (2.68m/1.3), saw a small bump, most likely aided by the announced casting changes. Tuesday, Reaper (1.71m/.7) suffered another small drop. And 90210 (2m/1.1) finished off the week.

Next week, everything changes. And by that I mean the weekly post. With so little new network programming, we’ll begin the shift to Ratings Clack Lite for the summer. We’ll still follow the new things on the networks, and start mixing in some cable results as things like Burn Notice, Psych, and Eureka get new seasons under way.

Actors don’t get cast on House because they’re lame. Even though obviously people like Dave Matthews have lucrative careers outside of House, what about other minor characters, especially those who have had recurring roles? What happens after House?

This weekend, I was watching House re-runs with some friends when one of them told me that Edi Gathegi (Big Love) also appeared in the movie Twilight. The conservative doc traded in his stethoscope for dreadlocks and a sexy torso to play semi-evil vampire Laurent. As Laurent, he is completely unrecognizable. I usually have a pretty good memory for work actors have done, but I thought my friend was wrong until I looked it up.

Anne Dudek, who played Amber (aka Cutthroat Bitch) has also continued working. She has appeared on both Mad Men as Francine Hanson and Big Love as Alby’s first wife, Laura. Of course, my first love is Amber, but I am always happy to see her working. I think Anne Dudek really deserves her own show.

Grumpy, (aka Brennan and actor Andy Comeau) the doc who got fired for faking a polio result in a patient and then curing it with orange juice, has also had further work. I just saw him a couple of weeks ago as a blind date on Trust Me. As soon as he showed up, I didn’t like him because he had faked the polio.

David Morse, the evil Detective Tritter, perhaps got the best gig of anyone who has appeared on House in a recurring role: He played George Washington on the HBO John Adams miniseries. Conversely, even though I hated his character on House, I loved him on John Adams. His Washington was stoic, admirable, and exactly right.

Sela Ward, who played House’s love interest Stacy in Season 2 has only made one appearance since House, though. She played Kevin Costner’s wife in The Guardian. She’s only been in one thing, and that was in 2006. What is up with that?

Who are your favorite House recurring characters? And do you know where they are now?

Spoiler Blinders On! Be warned that the casting news after the jump may contain slight spoilers about the roles the actors will play. Consult with your physician for any other questions.

This week, we have casting news for: the new Melrose Place, the new V, The Wonderful Maladys, 90210, and many more.

Current Series

Shannen Doherty will be returning to her former television zip code one more time. Doherty will be reprising her role as harlot Brenda Walsh for the season finale of 90210. What she will be back for, other than making Kelly’s life a bit more hellish, is unknown. [Source: Watch with Kristin]

The stars are coming out for an upcoming episode of NBC’s Medium directed by star Patricia Arquette. In addition to a return appearance by Angelica Huston, look for guest stints by Rumer Willis and Brothers & Sisters star Balthazar Getty. [Source: People]

New Series

Big news! Former O.C. actress Mischa Barton is NOT being added to the cast of the Melrose Place remake. However, she will be staying with the CW for the Ashton Kutcher produced A Beautiful Life. Don’t worry about this, though. Being a Kutcher produced show, it’ll probably be canceled in no time at all. [Source: The Envelope]

Over in the world of webisodes, theWB.com has cast Internet star Jessica “LonleyGirl15″ Rose for a new web horror series entitled Blood Cell. Rose will star as a woman racing against the clock to stop a psycho killer. [Source: Cynopsis]

After a couple of guest-starring stints and a recurring role on Chuck, former Arrested Development star Tony Hale is working to obtain a steady paycheck. He is set to star in the FOX comedy Cop House and will play an officer who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. A perfect casting for Hale, in my opinion. [Source: The Hollywood Reporter]

Here come the neighbors! Joining the cast of the Melrose Place reboot is Ashlee Simpson-Wentz. The former star of the more innocent 7th Heaven will play Violet, a character whose disarming outer naivete masks a calculating sex vixen inside. [Source: Entertainment Weekly]

Get ready to feel old (like you don’t already). Former Full House sibling, and sister to Kirk Cameron, Candace Cameron Bure, is joining the cast of ABC Family’s Perfect 10.
Let thee be warned! The following casting news may contain slight spoilers about the roles the actors will play. If you are highly allergic to spoilers avoid this post.

This week, we have casting news for: Lily, Dancing With the Stars, CSI, ER, and many others.

Now that Battlestar Galactica has wrapped up production there isn’t much for the cast and creators to do other than roll in the money they’ve made from the series over the last few years. This means that there are plenty of opportunities for these folks to drop in on other television series. Case in point: Kate Vernon, otherwise known as BSG’s Ellen Tigh, will be joining Ronald D. Moore on an upcoming episode of CSI. The plot? A murder investigation at a science fiction convention. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Get ready for a Seinfeld reunion featuring the entire cast of the hit comedy series! Unfortunately, unless you subscribe to HBO you may not get to see it. That’s because the whole cast will be appearing on the Larry David comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm for a multi-episode arc. So, either subscribe now or wait for the DVD release. [Source: The Hollywood Reporter]

The newest season of Dancing With the Stars hasn’t even aired yet and the cast is already looking like a badly beaten group of football players after a particularly rought pre-season. It was confirmed earlier this week that singer Jewel and Access Hollywood host Nancy O’Dell would not be competing due to leg injuries. Only one replacement has been named right now — Holly Madison from E!’s The Girls Next Door. [Source: Watch with Kristin]

I’m sure one of the many trivia questions that will be generated once ER ends in less than a month is, “Who was the last trauma victim in the emergency room?” It could turn out to be the Dead Zone’s Cara Buono, who will play a pregnant woman who goes into labor after a car accident. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Well, I guess Eli Stone is really dead, isn’t it? Especially after I read that Victor Garber is joining the cast of FOX’s musical comedy Glee. Garber will play the father of the shows leading man. He will be joined in the cast by another outcast from ABC — Pushing Daisies Kristin Chenoweth. Both actors are also wonderful singers, which makes me feel that there is some hope for this series. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Julianna Margulies is returning to the legal world once again. The former star of ER (who’ll be showing up on the series this week) will pick up her briefs one more time for the CBS pilot Good Wife. She’ll portray a politician’s wife who returns to her roots as a defense attorney. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Time to say good-bye to a member of MTV’s “reality” series The Hills. Lauren Conrad will be leaving the show at the end of the fifth season, which premieres on March 30th. [Source: Watch with Kristin]

Jackie Earle Haley, who is currently in the box office smash Watchmen, is jumping from the big to the small screen with a job on FOX’s Human Target. Haley will be playing information gatherer for main character Christopher Chance (Mark Valley). Also joining the cast is Pushing Daisies alum Chi McBride, who will play Chance’s business partner. [Source: The Hollywood Reporter]

The cast for the new Gossip Girl spinoff, titled Lily, is filling out quite nicely. Advanced talks are in the works to bring on Cynthia Watros (Lost) and Andrew McCarthy as Lily’s parents. McCarthy would be an ironic casting since he is known for many ‘Brat Pack’ movies of the 1980s. Also joining will be former Veronica Mars star Ryan Hansen as one of Lily’s ’80s pals. [Source: Watch with Kristin]

Can you believe in Al Michaels? Thirty (yes, thirty!) years after he made the famous call during the 1980 Winter Olympics, and 22 years after his last Olympic broadcast assignment, Al will be returning to the booth to host the daytime coverage of NBC’s 2010 Olympics (a lot of ‘Olympic’ references here). Michaels will host over 50 hours of daytime and weekend coverage from Vancouver. [Source: The Futon Critic]

Let the casting begin for ABC’s remake of V. Scott Wolf has been signed as a regular cast member for the reinvention of the’ 80s science fiction series. He will portray Chad Decker, a cable news anchor who is asked to pass the propaganda around for the invading aliens.
Be warned, the casting news after the jump may contain slight spoilers about the roles the actors will play.

This week, we have casting news for: ER, Martin Scorsese’s new HBO show, Curb Your Enthusiasm and others.

FOX is working quickly to cast its recently-ordered American version of Absolutely Fabulous. One of the first actors to possibly join the show is former 3rd Rock from the Sun cast member Kristen Johnston. If she is picked she will portray Edina, the character played by Jennifer Saunders in the original version. [Source: Zap2it]

Michael Shannon, Oscar nominee for his role in Revolutionary Road, will be co-starring in Martin Scorsese’s new HBO project Boardwalk Empire. Taking place during the Prohibition era, Shannon will play a Treasury Department agent tasked with controlling bootlegging. [Source: THR.com]

While Christian Slater’s primetime debut in My Own Worst Enemy was extremely short-lived, he’s not down on television yet. In fact, he’s going from the very serious drama right into absurd comedy with a guest starring role on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm. Look for him to play himself on an episode that will air later this year. [Source: Korbi TV]

Last week we mentioned the return of George Clooney and Julianna Marguiles to the blood-stained hallways of ER. Now it turns out they will be joined by actress Susan Sarandon. Again, who she is playing and how she will be connected to Clooney’s Doug Ross (or Marguiles’ Carol Hathaway) is being kept a mystery. I just hope that all the anticipation that these three names are generating isn’t dashed by small parts with few lines. [Source: Watch with Kristin]

Good news for fans of Lauren Graham! The former star of Gilmore Girls is, hopefully, returning to television in a new comedy for ABC titled Let It Go. Graham will play a female Dr. Phil-like talk show host who, after being dumped by her boyfriend, isn’t able to let it all go. [Source: Variety]

Billy Campbell, he of the former science fiction series The 4400, is traveling back in time to the 1980s for the new NBC drama Lost in the ’80s. Campbell will play Pete Mobley, patriarch to the main characters of the Mobley family and owner of a car dealership.
Be warned, the casting news after the jump may contain slight spoilers about the roles the actors will play.

This week, we have casting news for: 30 Rock, Brothers & Sisters, Doctor Who, ER, Ghost Whisperer, How I Met Your Mother, NCIS, Samantha Who?, Smallville and The Big Bang Theory.

Tony Award winner Patti Lupone will guest star as Frank’s mother on 30 Rock. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Trouble is coming to Brothers & Sisters in the form of Eli Stone’s Matt Letscher. His character, a recent widower, will befriend Kitty at a time where she questions her marriage to Robert and her future. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Bionic Woman’s Michelle Ryan will guest star on a Doctor Who special set to air this spring on BBC One. In the special, titled “Planet of the Dead,” the actress will play a mysterious woman named Lady Christina de Souza who joins the Doctor. [Source: TV Guide Online]

Our dreams have come true! After months of saying he would not return to the TV series that made him popular, George Clooney changed his mind and agreed to appear in an upcoming episode of ER. What could be better than Clooney back as Doug Ross? Having Julianna Marguiles appear in Clooney’s scene as Carol Hathaway! This is great news for all Ross+Carol shippers out there! [Sources: Watch with Kristin, The Ausiello Files and Korbi TV]

Melinda Gordon, played by Jennifer Love Hewitt, better watch her back because Hilary Duff will play a “beautiful woman of mystery” on an upcoming episode of Ghost Whisperer. Not much is known about Duff’s character but you can bet that she’ll be somewhat involved in the case-of-the-week plot either as the ghost, the murderer or one of the ghost’s family members. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Every time a casting announcement is published about someone being cast as a love interest for Ted, people wonder if the person will turn out to be the mother. Add the following announcement to the lot: That ’70s Show Laura Prepon is set to play a love interest for Ted in at least two episodes (Ausiello says it’s five episodes while TV Guide claims it’s two). Prepon’s character is said to be “notorious for cheating on her lovers to avoid having to explain why she’s dumping them” and is actually someone Ted dated while in college. [Source: The Ausiello Files and TV Guide Online]

Lance Henriksen has been tapped to play Sheriff Clay Boyd, an intense sheriff who’ll help Gibbs and his team work a case, in a NCIS episode set to air in February. In the episode, the team goes to the Arizona desert when an NCIS agent turns up dead. [Source: TV Guide Online]

A few weeks ago, we told you that Billy Zane would take over the role of Funk on Samantha Who?. Now that Sam and Funk will be officially dating, in comes Funk’s ex-wife Gigi. The latter will be portrayed by Women’s Murder Club Angie Harmon. Supposedly Gigi plays a critical role in the show’s mythology. Could it be that Gigi was involved in the accident that lead to Sam’s amnesia? Maybe she is even the one who caused the accident? [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Chloe and Clark will each have a wish granted when magician Zatanna, to be played by Serinda Swan, appears in episode 17 of Smallville. Chloe wishes to get control over Lois and ends up being in Lois’ body for most of the episode. It’s unknown what Clark’s wish is. [Source: TV Guide Online]

Not too long ago, it was announced that Sara Gilbert was upped to series regular on The Big Bang Theory. Yet, she is practically nowhere to be found on the show. Turn outs that Gilbert is no longer a regular but a recurring as writers were not able to give her character enough story to have her appear in more episodes. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Get ready to meet another mother on The Big Bang Theory. This time around it will be Leonard’s mommy and she will be played by former Cybil costar Christine Baranski. According to reports Leonard’s mom will be more like Sheldon than her own son. [Source: TV Guide]

Stunt Casting Alert! The youngest of the CSI family will jump in the fray as Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and hubby Pete Wentz guest star on the March 18th episode of CSI: NY. Rather than playing themselves in a brief cameo, the Wentz’s will be playing a pair of Bonnie and Clyde wannabees. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Chuck, meet Chevy. It looks like Mr. Chase’s recent run of guest-starring roles will be extended as he has signed up to appear on NBC’s Chuck for a three-episode arc. Chase will play a technology mogul who is accused by Chuck’s father of stealing his ideas. [Source: The Hollywood Reporter]

And, who would Chuck’s father be, exactly? That would be Scott Bakula — former time traveler and Captain of the first Starship Enterprise. Bakula has signed on for a three episode run as Chuck and Ellie’s missing father. [Source: Watch With Kiristin]

Have you ever seen Faye Dunaway roaming the corridors of Seattle Grace Hospital? No, neither have I. Yet, she’ll be playing one of the hospital’s renowned doctors in a February episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Look for her to cross paths with Cristina and Owen during her one episode (so far) stint. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

British actor Hugh Bonneville, recently seen in the miniseries Five Days and Tsunami: The Aftermath, will be joining the cast of David E. Kelley’s new dramedy Legally Mad. He will be starring as father and owner of the law firm that the main character Brady Hamm (Charity Wakefield) joins as the series begins. [Source: The Hollywood Reporter]

It looks like The Office’s Toby may have competition for Michael’s anger in the form of Idris Elba (The Wire), who will be joining the series for a six-episode arc. [Source: Cynopsis]

With so many relationships, mostly sexual, taking place on ABC’s Private Practice I’m surprised they have any time to perform their actual duties as medical professionals. Especially Addision, who looks to be juggling a few men at this moment in time. Well, her schedule is going to get a bit more crowded as Swingtown’s Josh Hopkins will be joining the show as another love interest for our Seattle transplant. Also joining the cast for a four episode arc will be What About Brian’s Amanda Detmer. She’ll play yet another doctor who strikes up a friendship with Addision. What time Addie will have to maintain this friendship while juggling several guys is not known. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Coming to the CW’s Privileged for the season finale is … Kathy Griffin? No, seriously. Ms. Griffin will be portraying a wedding planner (for Marco’s wedding) on the last episode of the season. [Source: Korbi TV]

The cast of Stargate Universe is filling out quite nicely now that the show has been given the green light of production. The latest to join the cast is David Blue, who recently played Marc’s boyfriend Cliff on Ugly Betty. On Universe, Blue will play a total slacker genius, which is a pre-requisite for all science fiction series of late. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

In addition to Blue, three additional actors have been added to the payroll of Stargate Universe. Justin Louis (Hidden Hills) will portray veteran Stargate team leader Colonel Everett Young while Brian J. Smith will be playing Lt. Matthew Scott. Sister, Sister’s Jamil Walker Smith will be playing another military man, Sergeant Ronald Greer. [Source: The Hollywood Reporter]

Daytime Emmy winner Vanessa Marcil (late of the “canceled” Lipstick Jungle) has been signed to CBS’ Without a Trace for a multi-episode arc. She’ll be playing a Manhattan social worker who may turn out to be a potential love interest for regular cast member Eric Close (Martin). Marcil’s stint will begin on March 17th.
Be warned, the casting news after the jump may contain slight spoilers about the roles the actors will play.

This week, we have casting news for: Heroes, True Blood, Numb3rs, Eleventh Hour, 90210, Brothers & Sisters, Eureka, and many more.

It looks like another member from the original 90210 will be coming over to the new er, shinier CW version. If you’re thinking of Matthew Perry you would be wrong. We’re talking about none other than Tori Spelling. Final negotiations are underway that will bring Spelling’s Donna Martin character back into the Beverly Hills fray for a multiple episode run. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Chad’s coming back! Jason Lewis, who played the character during season one of ABC’s Brothers & Sisters, will be returning to the series sometime in April to make a mess of Kevin and Scotty’s relationship. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

There’s gonna be a new G-man in town on CBS’ Eleventh Hour later this season. He will be played by Omar Benson Miller (Miracle at St. Anna) and his character will be a FBI trainee by the name of Felix. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Everyone welcome Dr. Tess Fontana to Eureka’s Global Dynamics. She, as well as Jamie Ray Newman, who plays the good doctor, will be showing up during the second half of the show’s third season later this year. [Source: SciFi Wire]

Ah, Michelle Trachtenberg. So adorable, yet so evil. At least when she plays Georgina over at Gossip Girl. Well, it looks like she’ll be reprising that role again towards the end of this season. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

It’s going to be a Pushing Daisies reunion of sorts over at the Heroes set. Former (I hate how that sounds) PD star Swoozie Kurtz has penned a deal to appear on the NBC series in April as an old friend of Angela Petrelli’s. The episode will be written by Swoozie’s former boss Bryan Fuller. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Law & Order:SVU’s favorite ADA is coming back to do some serious legal ass-kicking. Stephanie March, who played Alexandra Cabot for several seasons, will return during February sweeps for a six-episode arc. [Source: Korbitv]

Reaper’s devil-may-care devil, Ray Wise, will be jumping over to the CBS series Numb3rs come February sweeps. He’ll be playing a jury consultant for a defendant that the good guys are trying to convict of murder. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

In a further example that television characters never really die, Adele Stackhouse — otherwise known as Sookie and Jason Stackhouse’s “Gram” on HBO’s True Blood — will be returning in the second season. No, she will not be returning as a vampire. Instead, she will be coming back in some flashback scenes. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

There’s a new recruit coming over to CBS’ The Unit. It’s Wes Chatham, who is originally from Showtime’s Barbershop: The Series. Chatham will take his bow in March as the most junior member of the team. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

This week, we have casting news for the following TV series: Burn Notice, Cold Case, ER, Numb3rs, True Blood and Ugly Betty.

Burn Notice will introduce Michael’s former fiancé in the season 2 finale, set to air on March 5. Said fiancé will be played by Dina Meyer, who starred in canceled-rather-quickly series such as Miss Match, Point Pleasant and Birds of Prey.

Jeff Fahey, who plays pilot Frank Lapidus on Lost, will go back to the main land to shoot an episode of CBS’s Cold Case set to air early when the show returns with new episodes in 2009. Considering Fahey’s looks, it’s no surprise to see him play the owner of a motorcycle customization shop.

Yet another actor from ER’s past has agreed to return for the series’ final episodes. Alex Kingston, who played Doctor Elizabeth Corday, will appear in the January 15 episode. In the installment, Neela goes in for an attending interview and runs into Dr. Corday — aka Mark Greene’s widow. It looks like this guest appearance will have no impact on the show’s storylines. [Source: TV Guide Online]

Eve, better known for her singing, will guest star as a sales rep at a sneaker store in an upcoming episode of Numb3rs. The episode almost looks like a criminal version of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Instead of pants, it’s a valuable pair of sneakers. Criminals, and not a bunch of lovable teens, are the ones wearing the sneakers the FBI is trying to get their hands on.

We Are Marshall’s Wes Brown will appear in at least six episodes of True Blood’s second season. He’ll play God-obsessed Luke and bond with Jason while at church camp.

Dexter’s Lauren Velez will appear in a multi-episode arc on Ugly Betty. Very few details have leaked about her character, nurse Elena, but it is known that she will enter the lives of the Suarez family and that her appearance may be tied to the death of a major character. Could she be brought on the show to take care of Ignatio who is rumored to have a heart attack when new episodes return? Even if she is indeed there to take care of Ignatio, is he the one dying or will Elena be involved in the death of another character? Share your theories in comments!
Be warned, the casting news after the jump may contain slight spoilers about the roles the actors will play.

This week, we have casting news for the following TV series: 90210, Samantha Who?, Scrubs, The Office and Ugly Betty.

90210’s Naomi will be getting a potential new love interest around February Sweeps. Matt Lanter, who lends his voice to Anakin in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and who guest starred in various series such as Grey’s Anatomy and Heroes, has been tapped to play Liam, a bad boy who’ll set his sights on Naomi. Evil Naomi + Bad Boy Liam = chaos? [Source: TV Guide Online]

Move over Timothy Olyphant and make space for Billy Zane! Olyphant played the character of Winston Funk last season on Samantha Who? However, due to the fact he is now working on Damages, the actor is unable to reprise the role. In steps Billy Zane. The Titanic actor will first take over the role of Funk in episode 15 when he and Sam run into each other. Since Zane is said to be recurring, it wouldn’t surprise me if Sam gives him another chance. What do you think of the casting change? Personally, I don’t think Zane is a right fit for the role. Other actors look more like Olyphant and would have done a good job in the role. How about Josh Duhamel? Michael Vartan? Then again, Olyphant only appeared in one episode so we didn’t have time to get use to him on the show. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Tom Cavanagh will reprise his role of Dan, J.D.’s brother, sometime this season on Scrubs. Sadly, it’s unknown at this time what brings Dan to town or what prank he’ll play on J.D., but one thing is for sure, you can expect to laugh when the brothers are on-screen together! [Source: TV Guide Online]

In case you hadn’t heard, The Office will be getting that post-Super Bowl slot that every TV show dreams of. This means an extra special one-hour episode of the series filled with major guest stars such as Jack Black, Jessica Alba and Cloris Leachman! In the episode, titled “Stress Relief,” some of the employees watch a bootlegged movie during the workday. The movie stars, you guessed it: Black, Alba and Leachman! In the episode, the gang will also be roasting Michael. This special episode will air after the Super Bowl on February 1. [Sources: The Ausiello Files, Watch with Kristin and Korbi TV]

Thought that Betty would hook up with musician and neighbor Jesse? Well, it looks unlikely as Daniel Eric Gold as been hired to play a potential love interest for Betty on Ugly Betty. The role is said to be important enough for Gold’s contract to include a series regular option! Want to know more about this new guy? Well, according to the description, he sounds exactly like… Henry! Matt is “cute in an unconventional way, smart and career conscious, and friendly yet socially awkward” says Michael Ausiello. Betty and Matt will meet through the Young Editors’ Training Initiative. It’s about time Betty gets some lovin’ don’t you agree? And since it’s Ugly Betty we are talking about here, expect Matt to be hiding something huge from Betty.
Be warned, the casting news after the jump may contain slight spoilers about the roles the actors will play.

This week, we have casting news for the following TV series: ER, Fringe, Ghost Whisperer, Grey’s Anatomy, Heroes and Leverage.

The Riches‘ Shannon Woodward will appear in the final few episodes of ER as Sam’s sister, Kelly. If you thought Sam had her hands full just with raising her son, you ain’t seen nothing yet! Kelly wants to move their ailing mother to Chicago so Sam takes care of her. The drama doesn’t stop there! Said mother threw Sam out of the house when she got pregnant with Alex and both of them have not talked since! Talk about drama for poor Sam, eh? [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Dawson’s Creek fans rejoice! Grams is coming back to TV! Not only that but she will also be reunited with Pacey! Yay! Mary Beth Peil will appear on an upcoming episode of FOX’s Fringe, which stars Joshua Jackson. On the FOX show, Peil will play a character named Jessica Warren. The character is the mother of a woman who was killed 20 years ago in an explosion at Walter’s lab. You can bet that she’ll demand explanations about what really happened back then. [Source: TV Guide]

If you watched last week’s episode of Ghost Whisperer, you know that Sam found an engagement ring in a safe. Well, said ring was destined to be put on one of Teri Polo’s fingers. The actress is set to play Sam’s fiancé in at least one episode. Also guesting on GW is Rena Sofer who will play a ghost in the last new episode of 2008. [Source: TV Guide]

Angels in America’s Ben Shenkman will appear in a few episodes of Grey’s Anatomy as a patient in critical condition. Shenkman’s character is married to the patient played by Jennifer Westfeldt I mentioned in the last Casting Clack edition of November. Now that Westfeldt’s character has a husband, it looks like she may not get in a relationship with a doctor as it was rumored when her casting was announced. Then again, this being Grey’s, we never know! [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Some may call it type casting while others will call it fantastic casting! Smallville’s John Glover will once again play the twisted father of yet another evil spawn. This time it’s on Heroes and the evil spawn is none other than Sylar — can there be a better actor to play such a role? I think not! [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Actresses Sara Rue and Lauren Holly will appear on the new TNT drama Leverage. Rue will play a company employee who tries to cover up a death in the January 20 episode. As for Holly, she’ll play a shrewd businesswoman who’ll eventually face trial and try to buy off the jurors in the February 3 episode. Rhonda is said to cross paths (aka probably get in a fight and cause a lot of drama) with one of the main characters. Not to worry, Teegarden will appear in all FNL episodes as production has wrapped up, meaning there will be no scheduling conflicts with her 90210 gig.
Khandi Alexander will reprise her role on CSI: Miami for at least one episode set to air sometime this winter.
Craig T. Nelson, better known for his role on Coach and who recently appeared on My Name Is Earl, will play a publishing magnate in a three-episode arc of CSI: New York. Mac Taylor and co. better watch their backs because he is described as a nemesis to the show’s lead character! Smith’s role has yet to be confirmed but it looks like he may turn to Eli for help when the parents of his deceased girlfriend refuse to give her heart for a transplant.
Laura Breckenridge will create drama when she appears in at least three episodes of The CW’s Gossip Girl. The actress will play an English teacher named Rachel Carr whose young looks will have people mistake her for a student. Carr should watch her back, as back-stabber extraordinaire Blair will set her evil sights on her. The actor, who directed a few GA episodes, will play a serial killer in need of medical care. You can bet that the doctors will not rush to treat him and will ponder on if they should help him or not considering his day job.
If you enjoy Regina on Samantha Who? get ready for a double dose! Christine Ebesole has been cast as Regina’s sister. Turns out that Regina used Sam’s amnesia to forget about her sister’s existence! The truth comes out when Sam and Regina run into Ebesole’s character. I bet that Sam will give her mother the cold shoulder for a while for keeping up secrets about family members.
Be warned, the casting news after the jump may contain slight spoilers about the roles the actors will play.

This week, we have casting news for the following TV series: 30 Rock, Chuck, Desperate Housewives, Fringe, Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, Reaper, Supernatural and The Big Bang Theory.

Yet another famous person will guest star in an upcoming episode of 30 Rock! This time it’s CNN’s Larry King. The latter is said to play himself in a scene with Tracy Morgan’s character. The scene was shot on the set of King’s talk show. [Source: TV Week]

Battlestar Galactica’s Tricia Helfer will cause some chaos in Chuck’s life when she joins the NBC show Chuck later on this season. Helfer will play Special Agent Alex Forrest, an agent assigned to Chuck’s case when The Powers That Be notice how close Chuck and Sarah are. Not to worry, Sarah is not going anywhere and Helfer is not said to become a permanent fixture on the show. However, producers say that Tricia Helfer could return to the show. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

In other Chuck casting news that will have an impact on the Chuck/Sarah relationship, Jonathan Cake will appear in a multi-episode arc as a British MI6 agent who catches Sarah’s eye. As you can see, Sarah and Chuck’s relationship will hit a few bumps. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Expect a few laughs when Jeff and Lester are in charge of the Buy More hiring process in episode 15 of Chuck. They’ll try to hire more hot babes and Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover girl Brooklyn Decker may be one of them. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

The Scavos better be on the lookout, because grandmama is about to make a return! Stella Wingfield, who played Lynette’s mother in previous episodes of Desperate Housewives, is said to reprise her role for at least two episodes this season. As TV Guide mentions, it wouldn’t be surprising if Stella comes back to Wisteria Lane to offer support to her family through the “who set the fire ordeal,” since one of the Scavo twins will be the prime suspect. [Source: TV Guide Online]

Now that people from Peter’s past were introduced, it’s time to meet people from Olivia’s life. Ari Graynor will appear on Fringe as Olivia’s younger sister. The actress is set to be in at least three episodes of the FOX series. Her character and her daughter will crash at Olivia’s place for a while. Supposedly, she has man troubles back home, but this being Fringe, it wouldn’t be surprising if said troubles are part of the bigger story. Maybe Peter can console her? [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Is Shonda Rhimes planning another “doctor falling for patient” storyline for Grey’s Anatomy? Sure looks like it as Jennifer Westfeldt, who appeared on Notes from the Underbelly , is set to play a patient in a multi-episode arc. No more details are known about her role at this time. Personally, I hope she won’t be part of a relationship with a doctor, as this storyline has been done time and time again on the show (see Ava/Rebecca and Denny for example). [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Eric Lange, who recently appeared in series such as My Name is Earl and Numb3rs, will guest star in at least two episodes of Lost this season. He’ll play a character named Marty Jankowsky. Early casting calls described the character as a “very smart and controlling man who uses his fierce intellect as a weapon.” Reports say that he will appear in off-island scenes. Could he be one of the people that can help the Oceanic 6 return to the island? Or maybe he is someone who doesn’t want them to return….

Desperate Housewives‘ Lupe Ontiveros will play Ben’s grandmother on Reaper when the series returns mid-season. Also appearing in an upcoming episode of the series is Michael McDonald. The latter will play a biology teacher who taught the boys when they were in high school.
Barry Bostwick, John Rubinstein and Richard Libertini will appear in an upcoming episode of The CW’s Supernatural. The episode is titled “Criss Angel Is A Douche Bag” and is said to focus on the world of magicians.

In other Supernatural casting news, young actor Brock Kelly will portray a teenage Dean in an episode set to air on January 29. The episode, titled “Afterschool Special,” will feature flashbacks of the Winchester as teens. Colin Ford will reprise his role as teenage Sam. Michael Trucco will appear in an episode of CBS’s The Big Bang Theory sometime this month. He’ll play a genius who works on a project with Leonard. Since Trucco is a cutie, expect Penny to take an interest in him.
With its “Casting Clack” post, CliqueClack brings you a summary of the TV casting news released throughout the week, be it the addition of a series regular, a new recurring cast member, a guest star, or even someone making a cameo.

Be warned, the casting news after the jump may contain slight spoilers about the roles the actors will play.

This week, we have casting news for the following TV series: CSI: Miami, Desperate Housewives, Dirty Sexy Money, Gary Unmarried, Gossip Girl, Grey’s Anatomy, How I Met Your Mother, Kath & Kim, Law & Order: SVU, Medium, Prison Break, Smallville, The Big Bang Theory and Ugly Betty.

Sean Combs, aka Diddy, will battle it off with Horatio and co. in two episodes of CSI: Miami set to air in early 2009. Before knowing more about Combs’s role on the show, I was sure he would play one of the suspects since most of the famous people who guest star on one of the CSI shows end up being the bad guys. Turns out Combs will play a federal prosecutor. [Source: TV Guide Online]

Todd Grinnell will play a plastic surgeon on Desperate Housewives. The actor is said to perform surgery on one of the Wisteria Lane residents. Could it be Gabrielle? We have seen how the woman is not happy with her current soccer-mom looks so maybe she will decide to go under the knife to get back her model body.

Samaire Armstrong will reprise her role for the upcoming Thanksgiving-themed episode of Dirty Sexy Money. Donna Mills and Rena Sofer will also appear in this extra special episode. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Funny guy Matthew Lillard will make Jay Mohr’s life more miserable in episode 13 of Gary Unmarried. Not only does Mohr’s Gary have to cope with ex-wife Allison but he’ll now have to also deal with his ex-brother-in-law played by Lillard. [Source: TV Guide Online]

Dexter’s Desmond Harrington will play Bart Bass’s younger brother in a Gossip Girl episode set to air in January. Ausiello says that the character will come to the Upper East Side to help the Bass family go through tough times. Could this be related to the fact an important character is set to die in an upcoming episode?

Kevin McKidd, who’s appeared in five episodes of Grey’s Anatomy as Major Owen Hunt, is officially joining the cast as a series regular. So expect some official McLovin’ in Cristina’s future.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is set to appear in at least five episodes of Grey’s Anatomy. It means that Izzie will be seeing his ghost for a while longer. Many GA fans, including Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello, think that Morgan’s presence may mean that Izzie is getting a brain tumor. How else can his presence be explained? [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Kim Kardashian will appear as a magazine cover of herself in an episode of How I Met Your Mother set to air in January. She, along with Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt and Kendra Wilkinson, will appear in a funny scene during which Marshall tries to find a quiet place to read a magazine and do something that can only be done while sitting on a white throne. The three actors will take life on the magazine Marshall is trying to read and interact with him. Hilarious, no?

If you are one of the very few people who watch NBC’s Kath & Kim, you may be interested to know that Pamela Anderson will make a cameo in an upcoming episode. This gives me yet another reason not to watch the NBC series. [Source: NBC via The Futon Critic]

In other Kath & Kim casting news, Maya Rudolph will play a spiritual guide trying to help Phil lose weight. This role could provide some good laughs but what may be funnier to watch is Kath having a girl crush on Rudolph’s character. [Source: TV Guide Online]

Battlestar Galactica’s Michael Trucco will appear in the December 9 episode of Law & Order: SVU. Ryan Dunn and Kelly Hu will also appear in that episode. [Source: TV Guide Online]

Michael J. Fox’s wife, Tracy Pollan, has been tapped to appear in a three-episode arc on Medium. Pollan’s character, Caitlyn, will try to convince Allison to come work for a corporation. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Kathleen Quinlan will appear in at least four episodes of Prison Break. Her first appearance will be in the mid-season finale on December 22. Her character is said to be a kickass member of the Company and that she may be so powerful that even the General answers to her! Someone higher than the General in the Company foodchain? Her appearance will surely make the General and Michael’s team uneasy. [Source: Entertainment Weekly]

Speaking of Prison Break, Muse Watson will reprise his role of Charles Westmoreland in the December 15 episode of the series. Not to worry, PB is not going more sci fi than it already is (how else can you explain all the inconsistencies in the series?). Westmoreland will appear to Michael while he is undergoing surgery. Westmoreland made a good connection with Michael during the first season of the show. So his presence, even in dream, will surely help Michael make amends and/or decisions that will affect following episodes. [Source: Entertainment Weekly]

Tori Spelling will reprise her role of Linda Lake, the Daily Planet’s gossip columnist, on Smallville. If you recall, Linda is one of the few characters who knows Clark’s secret. Will she reveal Clark’s secret in one of her columns? [Source: The Ausiello Files]

Sara Rue will appear in a few episodes of CBS’s The Big Bang Theory. Her first appearance will be on November 17. Sources say that she’ll play a doctor who cannot keep her hands off Leonard! Do you think this pairing is a good idea for the show? Let your voice be heard by commenting below.

Bernadette Peters will guest star in at least one episode of ABC’s Ugly Betty as a magazine mogul named Jodie Papadakis. [Source: LA Times]
