It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia – Leaving Philadelphia
Road trip! For what I believe is the first time in Sunny history, the gang actually packs up for vacation and heads off for the Grand Canyon, bringing their special brand of crazy along for the ride. A long vacation was something new for the gang so I was really interested to see what would happen.
I was even more interested when we saw that though they had a large U-Haul camper hitched to the back of the car, it was essentially empty. If they weren’t going to be packing anything in it, then why bring it. At least Dee has a nice new car. Read the rest of this entry »
Fringe – Attack of the mole-scorpion-baby
Fringe settles into what will likely be the episode structure for most of its run. There’s a “monster-of-the-week” element, a la The X-Files, and there’s the progression of the Pattern-related storylines. Again, I guess, like The X-Files.
There was a really interesting development with Olivia this week, which I’m really looking forward to watching unfold. I’m not sure if it has a connection with her otherworldly visit with Bell in the Twin Towers, or the experimentation she was subjected to as a child, or maybe a bit of both. Survivor: Samoa is ghetto-fabulous!
Because Russell has been getting so much attention, and it’s well-deserved, we haven’t really spent much time with too many of the other contestants.
This week, we got a chance to spend a little more time with Yasmin. In fact, Foa Foa got to spend a little more time with Yasmin. And she proved herself to be quite a … personality. When the episode opened and she was talking about how out of sorts she was in the jungle, it reminded me of Cirie. I loved Cirie. Okay.
But then she got to Foa Foa and decided she was going to “help” them. What what?! Read the rest of this entry »
The X-Files Virgin’s Diary – Everybody wants what Mulder has
(Season 3, Episodes 21-24)
Less on the aliens and more on the government cover-up side of things as the third season winds to a close. Weirdly, the finale didn’t leave me as much on the edge of my seat as I expected, though I’m glad that I only have to wait a week to find out what happens.
Can you believe it’s been three years already? It feels like we just started this project over the summer. Oh how far our little agents have come, as well as the technology they use. It’s still beepers and giant cell phones, but they’re getting there. Read the rest of this entry »
Sons of Anarchy – How do you pretend it never happened?
It looks like Ethan is going to be even more direct trouble than I expected. Arkin had played the role like he was going to orchestrate events in a subtle manner to achieve his goals.
This episode, by approaching Hale directly with his latest scheme to eliminate SAMCRO from Charming, he proved that his arrogance has him feeling completely above the law. I’m surprised Hale was so supportive of SAMCRO, but perhaps it’s “the devil you know.” He wants to get rid of them, but there are acceptable ways to achieve that. Read the rest of this entry »
Diary of a Buffy/Angel Virgin – Saying good-bye hard
(Buffy Season 4, Episodes 5-6)
(Angel Season 1, Episodes 5-6)
Change is brewing already on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. A little abrupt, and saddening, but it will push the characters into new emotional territory. Never want them to stagnate too much.
Over on Angel, it was so good to see Angel doing something other than the whole brooding thing. The show is really coming into its own comedy-wise, which is important. I don’t need it as light as Buffy, but you can’t have characters like Cordelia and Doyle and stay that dark forever. Read the rest of this entry »
The X-Files Virgin’s Diary – “The scientific nature of the whammy.”
(Season 3, Episodes 17-20)
These episodes were almost more fun than they had any right to be. No mythology and I didn’t care a whit. Instead, I got to see a lighter side of The X-Files with an incredibly playful storytelling technique.
The Pusher is one of the best characters they’ve come up with. Even though I never watched the series, I had friends who did, and sometimes I’d be at their house when it was on, though I was usually reading, writing or otherwise occupied. And yet, somehow, segments from “Pusher” stuck with me through the years. Read the rest of this entry »
