Medium – Bank robbers and bombs

“New Terrain” was something of an odd episode, and not just because the episode title referenced Allison’s new car. The episode seemed to take a while to get up to speed. The dream about the girls in the car, and then the accident at the school, weren’t connected at all to the bank case, and made for some strange pacing. Fortunately, while the structure felt a little odd, the episode ended up being excellent as Allison unraveled the twists behind the big heist. Read the rest of this entry »
Supernatural – Sam and Dean Survive A Japanese Game Show

The powers that be down at Supernatural HQ had a little something up their sleeves with “Changing Channels.” Judging by the previews for the episode, and all that we’ve learned about the show over the years, this one had all the makings of a classic Supernatural romp. As we soon found out though, things were not exactly as they seemed, and the story took a decidedly darker turn once the real culprit behind the Winchester’s trip to TV Land was revealed. That move back to the bigger story, combined with some well crafted shots at Grey’s Anatomy, Knight Rider, and CSI: Miami, made for another very fun episode. Read the rest of this entry »
Webisode Clack – Hurtling Through Space At An Alarming Rate

This week brings with it the premiere of another new web series, and it’s one that you kind of have to see to believe. It’s just so out there. Those of you that take your sci-fi comedy with two cubes of absurd will feel right at home. If you’ve worn worn out the grooves on your Red Dwarf DVD, and read the words right off the pages in your Hitchhiker’s Guide collection, Hurtling Through Space At An Alarming Rate could be just the thing to satisfy that bizarro urge. TV on DVD for November 3rd

It’s another slow week for DVD releases, with the only current show releasing a set being The Clone Wars. There are still a number of old, and not so old, shows that are worth a look. First among those for most people will probably be the complete series collection from The Shield. My personal pick is volume one of the Rockford Files movie collection. Joining those on the shelves you’ll find Mission Impossible, Edge Of Darkness, Doctor Who, and Fraggle Rock, to name a few. The complete list is after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
Venture Bros. – They’ve gone full Waco on us

Things keep moving along at a breakneck pace, and in a rather surprising way. If you had told me a month ago that episode two would be Brock free, and episode three would find him relegated to a silent cameo in the opening scene, I might have been a little worried. I certainly wouldn’t have thought that I’d be pondering whether or not this is the best Venture Bros. has been. But that’s where we are. Between the Venture compound being mistaken for a religious cult, Dean’s introduction to prog-rock and big-boy science, and the deepening rift between Rusty and Hank, “Perchance To Dean” was another excellent outing. Castle – Here Kitty Kitty

After last week’s Halloween extravaganza, this week Castle took a turn for the musical with “Famous Last Words.” What it lacked in flashback costuming shenanigans, it made up for with a very clever plot that let the Castle family take the lead in the crime solving. Castle has always been helpful to Beckett and her team (mostly), but this is the first time that the team got it completely wrong. And with an assist from Alexis, Castle saved the day. Ratings Clack – The Mentalist knocks off CSI

A combination of baseball and pre-sweeps repeats made for a bit of an odd week. Repeats don’t mean there aren’t numbers of note however. We had Jay Leno’s first shot against CSI: Miami and NY repeats, and a look at what running repeats on Friday does for FOX. That is, nothing good for Dollhouse season 3. Also interesting this week — The Mentalist finally topped CSI in viewers and the demo, and even a repeat Gibbs appearance is worth 16 million viewers. Read the rest of this entry »
