Teen Wolf – Please oh please don’t tell me it’s witches

I haven't been reviewing every episode of MTV's 'Teen Wolf' this season, but it's not for lack of really liking what I've seen. Just tell me we won't be seeing witches on the show next season and I'll continue to be happy.

- Season 1, Episode 12 - "Code Breaker"

“Nous Chassons ceux qui nous chassent.” In case you were wondering, that’s the French phrase Argent said toward the end of the Teen Wolf finale, which translates exactly to what he said the “code” was: We hunt those who hunt us. Knowing that’s the code of the Argents and anyone else working with them, a clearer picture can be seen for what’s to come next season. Going into this episode, from the events of last week’s, I couldn’t see how things could possibly continue into another season. At least I couldn’t picture the Argents continuing their hunt for Scott. Now, with the former Alpha, Peter, out of the way, and the Argents not interested in killing anything that’s not a danger to them, there are lots of possibilities to come.

For one, Jackson’s fate is yet to be determined, though it’s a safe bet Derek gave him “the bite” and he’ll be back next season. From there I imagine he’ll love the new powers he’ll have, yet he’ll quickly find it’s not enough for him. Plan to see him seek out the role of alpha, meaning he’ll have to take Derek out for that honor.

Something that I may be reading too much into is what Peter said regarding his reasoning for creating a pack. He reminded that wolves hunt in packs to take down larger prey, since they can’t take down something like a large deer themselves. However, Peter alone could easily take down any non-werewolf himself. So … what’s this “larger prey” he needs a pack for? Was he thinking of taking down an elephant? Either it meant nothing more than his want of an easier takedown of humans using a pack, or there’s something bigger and badder out there that we haven’t seen yet, and he was looking to take them out.

Something else we’ll learn about next season is what’s up with Lydia. If nothing at all was said by Stiles and Scott about her not healing, I would have simply assumed she just wasn’t infected or that by Peter being dead before her first time turning, she was fine. Now that they said, “then what is she?” one can only conclude she’s not simply human. So, as I said in the title to this post, please don’t tell me this “something else” she is is a witch. In fact, I really don’t want to see anything else supernatural in this show. I think Vampire Diaries and True Blood got a bit absurd when they started bringing in all sorts of other creatures into the mix, whereby humans were literally the minority. Buffy could get away with it because of the Hell Mouth — a brilliant move by Joss to allow for much-needed diversity. Teen Wolf needs to stay werewolves, don’t you think?

The reason I think Lydia is likely a witch is because of her keen ability to mix those chemicals to create the firebomb. Yeah, it wasn’t exactly magic, but it adds up quite conveniently.

I wonder if, eventually, the plan is to bring in more of the Teen Wolf movie by having the town realize Scott is a werewolf and embracing him and his abilities, making the wolf a school mascot and all that. So far that show doesn’t at all feel like they could get away with something like that, but it’d be an interesting turn. Then there’s the question of Scott’s father — will he make an appearance, and will we find out he’s gotten the bite at some point as well?

As for Scott’s fate, I believe he really will stay as a werewolf forever. I think the mention of the alpha being the “cure” for him was just a way of us seeing, once and for all, that his hopes of being rid of the curse are all but gone. I guess it could turn out later that there’s something else that could be done with Peter’s body to help him, but I doubt it. In fact, I thought by Peter being dead that Scott would be cured from that alone, but … apparently not?

I’m pleasantly surprised by what MTV was able to turn out with Teen Wolf. When all you hear is how bad Jersey Shore is and how few music videos the channel shows anymore, it was difficult to believe this show could be any good, especially when the same-named movie was so hokey. With the exception of the overused shocking-music moments used for scenes that really weren’t that shocking, there production was pretty well done. These last few episodes in particular had me looking forward to the next, and I usually can’t stand teenage angst shows!

What did you think of the first season of the show? Any predictions for next season? Or have you decided not to watch at all because you just can’t believe MTV can produce anything good?

She wont turn out to be a witch. I mean come one the idea that there are witches in that movie would drop the rating down and the director knows that. Also “the cure” was made up. Even if it existed (in the show) it wouldnt effect scott. I mean the main character c’mon. Something that intrigues me though is the black vet. I wouldnt say he’s a warlock but there is something that could be “supernatural” about him. He said that he was not involved with the argent through subtle yet obvious clues. Also did you notice that the female werewolf (killed in the begining) was of a different form. I think maybe the female werewolves possess a different form of “the curse” with that being said…. this can go in many directions. Scott loses his powers but re-obtains them through Derek. I also see dereks darker side coming out in the next season. To address the “larger prey”,,,, i think they will encoperate vampires into this. I hate to say it but it is what i think. If you watched the twilight series it took several to take a vampire down. Oh….. one more thing if they encorperate vampires, i see Scott becoming a hybrid in order to kill Derek and Peter together. however i could be reading waaaayyyy to far into this….

They said that they won’t add vampires into teen wolf, just “mutations of werewolves” whatever that means. I want to know what the Vet is! How did he stop Peter from transforming, and Peter said something about “Mountain Ash,” but they never explained it.

Does anyone know what Peter said right before Derek killed him? Something about “I can smell it on you” But i’ve watched it twice and can’t make out what the rest of what he said was.

Peter basically said, “I can smell it on you,” meaning he could smell the Derek wanted to kill him so he’d become Alpha.

I’m pretty sure Lydia will be some sort of shapeshifter or an ordinary human with a very ugly scar.

As far as Witches go I’m all for it. The produce only said no vampires but left everything else on the table. Personally I think the Vet is a warlock. Someone recently pointed out on another forum that another name for the mountain ash in his office is Witch Wood.

I imagine the front desk at the vet’s is made of mountain ash wood (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain_ash), which I guess is enough to cause issues for werewolves. I don’t think using a specific kind of wood makes him some sort of magic user.

I think we will see an introduction of WereBears in season 2. If done well, a wolf-bear dialogue could be an awesome addition, and a great way to continue the show for a few seasons all on its own. Maybe that is where “mountain ash” comes in. Maybe the Vet is a WereBear. Although, Stiles sticks out to me when I ask myself who Id like to see become a (ste)roided-out version of a bear.
The Witch idea is just too redundant for me.

Ok… The vet isn’t a warlock! Lol. I think he’s a previous werewolf. He knows what stuff to use to keep them away and he works with dogs????? Yeah, also Lydia is the female version of the werewolf. They dont heal like the make version. The “bigger prey” still gets me though. I believe maybe that there are were animals of different sorts. Shoot maybe the vet is like a werecat? Stiles on the other hand… I have a feeling gets dragged into something he doesn’t want to be. I.e the vet tells stiles what he is and offers him the opportunity to accept the gift? Again back to the werecat. Oh and scott stays a werewolf. He was turned by a bite the night before the fullmoon. Thus making him the equivalent of being born with it. <—- that's what I think. Also did anyone else realize that the gay kid is mentioned several times???? Could there be something there? I'm not real sure why they chose the Nordic background to this? If they do continue to follow the Norwegian folklore I can see certain thugs happening. Brief history, back when were"creatures" were thought to exist; Norwegians created the argents (elite hunters gifted with gods grace) when they were failing they hired the alchemists who also failed which in return drove them to study black magic. (witches) it's is also said that when one of the were"creatures" were caught they discovered that they can be controlled using monkshood. Back then called Devils Blue. The warlocks and witches created the seal of lycan which curses the were"creatures" to become slaves of the moon. These "lycans" were then breeding with other animals creating bigger forms and mutating the gene pool. The originators were said to be the "alphas" however a creature would soon surpass them in speed. These were the more wolf like than the other alphas. They lacked the strength the alphas had but made up for it with mental effects. Like (stealing from true blood) glamour effects. They could also turn on demand. They Wernt cursed to the moon.
Nordic folklore is pretty interesting
If they stick true to the Norwegian history I can see somethings mentioned above appearing.

i don’t think there will be werebears or wear cats i think maybe the vet is like an old werewolf or maybe he was with argents at one time and then got bit and ended being a werewolf so he left and that would explain how he could heel that shot that scott had and he would no mountain ash to be against werewolfs or the mountain ash could be whats in the bullets all possible ideas will be explored but i dont think he’ll put witchs vampires or were cats for ratings sake they’ll probally keep the show abut werewolfs hence the nmae teen wolf not teen witch or teen werecat or even teen were bear i think lyddia will be a wolf but the show will revolve on them lyddia allison and derek allisons father will prob go after scott and derek not realizing lydias a werewolf now and then he’ll find out in the end maybe making season 3

You mentioned about Scott never being cured, but right at the end of season one he’s sat on the roof with Alison in the light of a full moon (without turning), isn’t he already cured ?? Or just powerful enough to control his shifts even during a full moon ??

September 26, 2011 at 2:06 PM

I took it to mean he’s just better at controlling his powers when he’s with Allison.

You mentioned nothing about Mrs Argent. A strong character, only little used. And the slogan in your title belongs to witches, indeed – the hunters were always the pawns, maybe she’s the mastermind behind them.
Or maybe both her and Lydia have been only hints that will lead nowhere.

I believe there should be another witch in this series cos’ I love witches for they can be bad girls. My prediction is a complicated lovelife. Since I’ve got a hint that Matt (new guy in season 2) is going to compete with Scott for Allison’s affections, there should be a new mysterious girl in town. Only she’s a paranormal being. I was kind of hoping she turn out to be a witch or a WEREWOLF, but I can’t imagine how this new girl will change during a full moon. So, she should be a witch.. & get caught in between Scott and Allison. Actually, I wanna see 2 girls fighting over a boy like Ethan Wate in Beautiful Creatures. Hope anyone seeing this get what I mean.

YES! I agree with just about everything you wrote! I hope that there are only werewovles on this show. I hope Lydia does get turned into a werewolf and was just having a bad reaction has she is allergic to dogs/wolves or something. As for the town finding out about Scott and accepting him as a wolf, eh that seems a little to ‘happy funny haha’ to me. I think the reason the show works so well is that they took the comedy movie and turned it into a dark drama/comedy. I read somewhere that the creator wanted to make the show Buffy style, have dark dramatic moments and throw in some fun.

December 11, 2011 at 6:34 AM

Me again. I was thinking about what to expect from the next season. I really wanna see more bad girls a.k.a. witches, especially the ones from Salem, Massachusetts. Except one witch turning out to be neither good nor bad. Think that witch as the female version of Damon Salvatore.

December 11, 2011 at 11:47 PM

Gee…I always have to come here & see what other people are predicting. At least, I agree that (seriously) no vampires in this show AT ALL. I wanna see paranormal LIVING creatures (witches are considered to be humans to me).
Ok, witches are POWERFUL human beings. I’m so obsessed with them ever since reading The Secret Circle. Hopefully I’ve not offended anyone who are into vampires so far.
