Dear ABC,
Since you fail to have the capacity for an original idea these days, I’ve got a fabulous one for you. I’m sure you’ve never thought about it, but I think I may have solved a very big problem for you. You all got an earful of how I felt about an Alias reboot not too long ago. Heck, even Michael Vartan is put off by the idea, since he and Jennifer Garner aren’t too old to reprise their roles — so why recast? A good point, Michael. Suffice it to say, no one is excited about your idea of an Alias reboot. Unless it’s a Sark spin-off….
Word is that ABC Family is now developing a series called Shadows. It sounds a lot — I mean A LOT — like Alias to me, with a bit of the final Kyle XY season tossed in there for good measure. It’s about a secret program at Harvard designed to train a new generation of spies, and revolves around the students and faculty. Sounds kind of awesome, right?
So ABC, you could go a couple of ways here. First, help your little-sister network promote this, offer them the success that you’ve had, and just drop the whole Alias: The Next Generation idea. Or, you could just steal it. That’s what you’ve done with your unoriginal new series, The Gates and No Ordinary Family; you’ve totally swiped those ideas, for better or for worse. So what’s to stop you from stealing the whole show and bringing to to ABC?
I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that I’m much more interested in discovering a new, potentially great series than I am seeing an old favorite done in a sub-par way. It’s probably too much to ask, but if you can work with ABC Family on this one, it could become a great show and it may even save your reputation at the same time.

Speaking of Kyle XY. That show did great on ABC in reruns during the summer, got like 5 million viewers on. So maybe ABC really should look into their “Family” shows because ABC Family shows are better than most of the shows still left on ABC.
For me, at least 50% of what made Alias a good show was watching Jennifer Garner be sexy and wear skimpy clothing. It had a few clever twists but was ultimately a pretty run of the mill spy fiction show. It out stayed its welcome by about a season and a half, which has kind of made me a little bitter towards it on reflection.
I have no problem with a reboot. Reboots can work. Like, uh…
Not seeing the similarities with ABC Family’s Shadows though, other than it being about spys. Any Alias reboot or successor has to be sexy for it to make sense in my opinion.
I am actually all about some sort of remake or reboot. So you do not speak for me in your letters. nor do I wish to see any kind of a Sark spin-off. Ugh..Ya he was good, but I could fore-go seeing him again. Definitely not my favorite character on there.
A Sloane spin-off, now THAT could be fun (and possible, mind you). Or better yet, a Marshall spin-off!! Heck ya! Marshall is my hero.
If any ALIAS writer people are reading this I have been figuring out ways to bring back this show since it ended. That’s a lot of time to think! Sloane is just lying there in Mongolia and who knows if Irena REALLY died when she fell through the glass? She could have somehow gotten to Sloane and helped him. Perhaps he was wearing some sort of tracking device she found him with. Now Isabelle is apparently quite 3-D capable and she could be older now and could help mom and dad out on missions. I could see it now…
I need to write my own letter to ABC.
