Poll: Who’s your all-time favorite TV vampire?

There are a lot of TV vampires worth voting for ... will you be able to choose just one? Elaborate in the comments and let us know if we didn't nominate your favorite.

In dreaming up this poll, I really thought it would be an easy one. There couldn’t be that many choices, though I did suspect that the results would be spread out across the board (can’t wait to see!). After all, the shows that gave us these awesome vampire characters have a bit of a cult following (deliberate understatement there … I get that you guys are RABID!).

What I didn’t realize until I started researching was that there was vampire life on TV before Buffy the Vampire Slayer . Who knew? In all seriousness, I did know, but I didn’t kn0w how many shows there actually were.

Let’s see what some of our CliqueClack staffers felt were appropriate nominations:

JULIA: I just know that if Spike isn’t included, shitfits will be had.

JAY: Jeff Zucker. Sucked the soul right out of NBC.

TARA: My sister is about 15 years older than me, and used to demand I watch Barnabas Collins with her on Dark Shadows. He scared the poop outta me, but she knew to bribe me with Nestle Quik. Here’s a quote from the scariest vampire of them all:

“For most men, time moves slowly, oh so slowly, they don’t even realize it. But time has revealed itself to me in a very special way. Time is a rushing, howling wind that rages past me, withering me in a single, relentless blast, and then continues on. I’ve been sitting here passively, submissive to its rage, watching its work. Listen! Time, howling, withering!”

BRETT: A bit off the beaten path I’m sure, but my pick would be Krista Starr (Jill Wagner) in Blade. I maintain that if the show would have been Krista, instead of Blade, it would have done much better. And if you want to go the other way… far and away my all time least favorite vampire is Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) in True Blood. I go into every episode hoping this is the one where they get rid of Bill for good. With that in mind, Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård) should be on the list of choices.

RUBY: As the resident Sanctuary fan, I will nominate Tesla.

MICHAEL: I remember Barry Atwater as the vampire Janos Skorzeny on Kolchak: The Night Stalker … freaked … me … out … as a kid back in the day.

Yeah. So I’m dating myself. What’s it to you?

BOB: The poll is probably destined to get a little Buffy-heavy, but I have to nominate Harmony Kendall, she was definitely a… unique vampire in the television world. Plus, the Xander/Harmony fight in Buffy is perhaps my favorite moment from the entire series.

IVEY: Since Spike and Eric are already mentioned, I’ll throw in my next two favorites: Darla and Dru.

KONA: I actually don’t think I’ve ever watched a show with a vampire in it. Is that weird? [Yes. yes it is. Very much so.]

JULIA: If you do Spike AND Angel together, though, you’ll have a bloodbath. Heh. Bloodbath.

Actually, the Spike/Angel thing is similar to the Eric/Bill thing on True Blood, from what I’ve seen of fandom. You may need separate polls: blond bad boys who aren’t SUPPOSED to be the love interest versus the dark-haired broody guy who is.

And Kona, don’t feel weird, I’ve watched about half of Buffy until Joss just made me too sad every time I tuned in instead of able to ignore the campy humor (there are only so many people he can kill before it just becomes too painful, okay?), and there’s never been another vampire show good enough to distract me from the fact that, uh, vampires, which I’ve never gotten the allure of.

I’ve always preferred werewolves, ever since Remus Lupin.

wow… that’s a though choice. I did pick Spike (who rules over angel any time anywere), but Eric Northman comes like a very close second, so i think that maybe i’m in blonde camp here… :)

PD: you forgot to include the sexy Henry Fitzroy from Blood Ties!!!

June 9, 2010 at 1:57 PM

I read that whole post and then I saw “Mitchel (Being Human)” and couldn’t click fast enough…!

June 9, 2010 at 2:10 PM

What about Nick from “Forever Knight”? (Or LaCroix or Janette for that matter?) Way before Mick or Angel, he was the broody vamp who wanted to redeem himself, solve crimes, and have historical flashbacks ala “Highlander.”

June 9, 2010 at 2:39 PM

Before True Blood, I would have said Spike, but now I just have to vote for Eric :)
My third choice would be Henry Fitzroy on Blood Ties, I think he should have been included in the poll – and that show, even though short, was actually quite entertaining and scary at times, and had a great lead female character.

**Harmony is in a category all by herself, I can’t remember a vampire so clumsy/stupid/funny, I remember I used to laugh out loud, literally, at scenes with her in them, both on Buffy and Angel :D

June 9, 2010 at 2:54 PM

I might have to go with Godrick from True Blood.

June 9, 2010 at 5:09 PM

Evil Willow for sure.

June 9, 2010 at 9:28 PM

Ah, completely forgot about that! Yeah, she was awesome, playing with the “puppy”….

June 9, 2010 at 11:52 PM

Henry Fitzroy of Blood Ties as played by Kyle Schmid is fantastic. He convinces you he is an “old soul” and is constantly fighting to maintain his humanity.

June 10, 2010 at 12:04 AM

Bloodties Henry Fitzroy played by Kyle Schmid should be added to your list!

June 10, 2010 at 12:03 AM

Have to agree with some of the other ladies here, you left off Henry Fitzroy, from Blood Ties. He was a great vampire, everything that you’d want in a vamp. He was a “smooth operator”, dark, mysterious and romantic. He was a vamp with a heart, he had learned to control his blood lust and rarely killed. He was the bastard son of Henry,VIII. I still marvel at the fact that Kyle Schmid was only 22 when he played Henry yet he made us all believe that he was a 450-year old vamp with ease, he inhabited the character. He had the sense of arrogance and artistry of the character down pat. And my personal favorite, he didn’t SPARKLE. As attractive as Edward Cullen was, everyone knows that “real” vampires don’t sparkle, lol.

June 10, 2010 at 12:06 AM

First, last and always, Henry Fitzroy would have to be my favorite.

June 10, 2010 at 12:15 AM

My favorite vampire is the incomparable Henry Fitzroy played by Kyle Schmid. After watching him in Blood Ties, all the others pale in comparison.

June 10, 2010 at 2:10 AM

Hi,

the one and only vampire is Henry Fitzroy played by Kyle Schmid in the show Blood Ties .

June 10, 2010 at 2:18 AM

My favorite has to be Henry Fitzroy beutifully played by Kyle Schmid.

June 10, 2010 at 4:24 AM

I would have to say Henry Fitzroy, played buy the gorgeous and amazingly talented Kyle Schmid. He should definitely be added to your list. He plays a 450 year old vampire who is wise, passionate and very romantic. He definitely makes my heart race.

June 10, 2010 at 4:48 AM

First of all, I’m in love with you for loving Remus Lupin. Shoebox Project anyone? I love Moony!

Secondly, of course the Buffyverse vamps must rule this poll. My favorite would definitely have to be Angelus. He just barely nudges out Angel.

June 10, 2010 at 5:11 AM

I like Angel and Spike, but my absolute fav vampire is Henry Fitzroy, played by the gorgeous actor Kyle Schmid. Unfortunately he’s missing on the list… :(

June 10, 2010 at 6:29 AM

I wanted to vote for Henry Fitzroy, but he isn’t in the list :( I think he is the best vampire for me ;)

June 10, 2010 at 7:31 AM

Henry Fitzroy and Bill compton, so no one gets my vote…whoever made this list really missed the creme de la creme

June 10, 2010 at 10:27 AM

I have to agree about Henry Fitzroy – as much as I love Angel and Spike. He should have made that list for being awesome without constant brooding. A shame that show got canceled.

June 10, 2010 at 12:07 PM

I chose Spike, but Eric Northman is definitely right up there at the top.

June 10, 2010 at 1:56 PM

Angel, from “Buffy” was, and is great–even resulted in the spin-off, but, I have to vote, Nick St. John,(Moonlight). That is another show where the network dropped the ball. I Still like “Moolight” over “True Blood”. I quit watching “True Blood” after the second season. I have commented previously; I am beginning to question, if present HBO programming is worth the extra premium on my cable. At least SYFY, or whatever they are calling themselves now, ran all the old ones. They are now running another, old favorites from “Highlander”.

June 10, 2010 at 2:07 PM

Joss Whedon shows sucks!

June 10, 2010 at 2:08 PM

Buffy is dead for a long time!

June 10, 2010 at 2:09 PM

Rest in peace Buffy and Angel!

June 10, 2010 at 2:26 PM

Please add Kyle Schmid to your list of favorites vampires,he did a fantastic job as Henry Fiztroy in Blood Ties.

June 10, 2010 at 3:56 PM

Henry Fitzroy (Kyle Schmid) has it hands down in my book! You should add him to your survey he came way before vampire diaries or true blood; he is the best; those who don’t know this haven’t seen him in action! “watch Blood Ties and you’ll agree” Henry Rules!

June 10, 2010 at 5:14 PM

How is the Vampire Diaries beating out any of the characters from Buffy? I’ve never seen the show, but anyone on it can’t be as awesome as Spike.

June 13, 2010 at 12:42 PM

I have to agree that Spike is my favorite vamp, but I can say that Damon is a close second. His character reminds me so much of Spike, so tortured and sad and BAD. As Ian is getting more used to Damon he is doing just like James and making the character come to life in a big way. If you have not watched Vampire Diaries you should, it is the best vamp thing around right now. Puts True Blood and Twilight to shame. In on ep Damon is talking about Twilight and it was so funny. Damon is also like Spike in that the best funny lines go to him. And he is so HOT.lol But Spike will always be my first vamp love. How many series do you know that have 7 cliff-hangers on the finale?? VD did it and has everyone looking forward to Sept.

June 10, 2010 at 9:00 PM

Your poll seems to be short one very hot, albeit undead vampire and that would be vampire Henry Fitzroy (as embodied by actor Kyle Schmid) from tv Blood Ties.
Consider adding him next time… you won’t be disappointed. ;)

June 10, 2010 at 9:07 PM

OK, you people are all convincing me that perhaps Blood Ties needs to be a virgin diary that I do — I’m off to check if it’s on DVD! :-)

June 11, 2010 at 6:18 AM

Hell yeah!!! we need a virgin diaries of blood ties!!! as a Supernatural fan you will enjoy it very much!!! (and Henry is a very sexy vamp!!!)

June 12, 2010 at 7:55 PM

I am always so sorry to see how little known Henry Fitzroy is and how he is so often ignored by the media. He is an outstanding Vampire character in both the novels and in the short lived Blood Ties on Lifetime. The series was only cancelled because the production company had problems.

June 10, 2010 at 9:40 PM

Tanya Huff re-invented the vampire in the Blood books in the person of Henry Fitzroy. Kyle Schmid made Henry Fitzroy his own! Neither are on the list so…can’t vote.

June 10, 2010 at 9:49 PM

Debbie;

it is on DVD. two seasons;

June 11, 2010 at 7:12 AM

I miss Kyle Schmid on your list, who brought Tanya Huff´s Henry Fitzroy from the Blood Books to life in the tv series of Blood Ties.Even made him his own. And maybe they are going to bring the Smoke And Mirror Books to life in tv.
Add Kyle Schmid/Henry Fitzroy and you won´t be disappointed.

June 11, 2010 at 12:04 PM

All time fave TV Vampire? For me there is only one – Henry Fitzroy from Blood Ties. So disappointed to see he wasn’t even in the poll. Man, have you missed out.

June 11, 2010 at 12:51 PM

Still can’t vote :(…my fav’s not there…re: Henry Fitzroy…Blood Ties.

June 11, 2010 at 2:32 PM

I would have voted for Nick from Forever Knight, but since that wasn’t an option, my second choice was Krista from Blade. Agree with Brett that she was the unexpected highlight of a surprisingly good show, and hope for more of her than just Wipeout.

June 11, 2010 at 8:41 PM

Nick Knight was definitely the sexiest vampire. Although Lestrade was pretty hot (and evil) too.

Other than Barnabas Collins, those others are also-rans.

June 11, 2010 at 5:17 PM

No question, Mick St. John from Moonlight..everyone else is working for second place. He’s a ‘man’ among boys in that poll, with the possible exception of Barnabas Collins, who WAS pretty cool….

June 12, 2010 at 1:51 AM

The season finale of The Vampire Diaries was awesome.

And Damon was awesome as usual. He should and he will win this poll.

June 12, 2010 at 8:14 AM

Mick Mick Mick!!!!!! Yes Yes Yes!!! ALL THE WAY BABY!!!!!

June 12, 2010 at 5:33 PM

Mick is my fave, but why, oh, why is Josef (also from Moonlight) not on this list?!

June 12, 2010 at 7:18 PM

And yet another Favorite TV Vampire poll that leaves off my own favorite, Nick Knight (Forever Knight, played by Geraint Wyn Davies), the “Angel” before Angel himself came along…

June 13, 2010 at 5:49 PM

I strongly agree. Nick keeps getting left out of these “best-of” lists. I’m a Spike gal myself and he will always get my vote. But if it wasn’t for Spike, Nick would get my vote on all these polls. He was terrific and that show was a classic! These current vampire shows and movies need to watch that show and take notes on how it really should be done!

June 13, 2010 at 4:24 AM

people…where is Kyle Schmid/ Henry Fitzroy, of Blood Ties?

June 13, 2010 at 4:25 AM

and Kyle Schmid/Henry Fitzroy?

June 13, 2010 at 9:46 AM

how the hell is angel almost last
he’s a lot better than that blond moron and stufan savabore

June 13, 2010 at 10:00 AM

I love Damon, but SPIKE is the best, the hottest and the handsomest vampire ever!!!

June 13, 2010 at 10:49 AM

I told you Damon Salvatore would win this poll!

And nice tight shot from Buffy and Angel by the way; for the last places unfortunately.

June 13, 2010 at 11:23 AM

Of course it’s Spike…the one and only… simply the best

June 13, 2010 at 12:47 PM

Spike will forever be my first vampire love, but Damon is here now and has a strong 2nd place in my heart. Want to see Ian in a good movie, get Changing Hearts and keep tissues handy.

June 13, 2010 at 12:49 PM

Very glad to see the Salvatore brothers ahead of True Blood.

June 13, 2010 at 6:26 PM

Ok let’s see if we can get the Salvatore brothers to 1000 votes each.

June 14, 2010 at 2:28 PM

I’ve vote for Mick St. John.
I love that man.
He’s is a very incredible good actor. (And incredible sexy.):P
I love his movies and tv shows.

I was not happy when CBS canceled the show “Moonlight”.
I wanne to see the end of it.
How about the list with the namens of all vampires in LA?
And what about Sarah, does she ever come out of the coma?
And Mick and Beth, how will that end?

I just loved that show.

But I also like “The Vampire Diaries”.
The two brothers are also handsome men. :P hehe
And I also love that tvshow.
Also a bit of a vampire love story.
I like that. ;-D

But, it was a difficult decision, but my vote still went to Mick, for me, he is still the best!!!

June 14, 2010 at 4:46 PM

THE BEST VAMPIRE ON ALL TIME IS SPIKE!!!is amazing boyfriend, friend and so strong!!poetic, romantic and the same time the bad boy!! but he realy is a good men!!! he love buffy so much and save the world for her! SPIKE FOREVER AND EVER THE BEST VAMPIRE!!!

June 14, 2010 at 5:49 PM

I wanted to vote more than once for Mick St. John. He’s the best. The rest are poor imitations of that gorgeous vampire. He would be on TV with many more seasons to come except for the shortsightedness of CBS. I’m sure they regret their decision to pull Moonlight…after all, it was the People’s Choice for the best new series.

June 14, 2010 at 7:09 PM

Mick St. John: Soulful, beautiful, heroic, dangerous, emotionally torn, immortal, righteous, strong, brave, moral, sexy, neatfreak, melancholy, rigid, a loner, kind, good manners, masculine. I could go on. How many TV characters are so well-fleshed out? And portrayed by a beautiful man Aussie Alex O’Loughlin!!!!

June 15, 2010 at 9:02 AM

It´s Spike
´f course

June 15, 2010 at 11:22 AM

I am happy to see that Tesla is holding his own! I feel like I should extol the virtues of my nominee. Here goes: A vampire with a wicked sense of humor, Tesla is a mischief-maker with an appreciation for fine wine and electricity. He’s not mopey, he’s not brooding, he’s not an emotionally disturbed, tortured antihero (or hero). He’s a delightful, smart-ass rogue. And he doesn’t care if he wins the poll because he’s so secure in his own awesomeness.

June 15, 2010 at 2:25 PM

You got me curious about this Tesla.
I checked a few videos on youtube and he seem to be a nice guy.
Well in fact i’m in love with Amanda Tapping since Stargate.

Let’s forget the Salvatore brothers for a moment and give Tesla some help on this poll.

June 15, 2010 at 2:57 PM

Thanks, friend! Tesla may not care about winning the poll, but I sure do! ;-D

June 16, 2010 at 2:48 PM

Poor Nick Knight and “Forever Knight”–no one ever remembers him or the show. Now those vampires were interesting. Nick predates Angel and played the tortured vampire, pining to be human again, in a much more entertaining and believable manner than broody Angel of the BtVS years.

June 16, 2010 at 3:49 PM

Mick St.John from Moonlight is the sexiest and original vampire ever ..I have been around about as long as the vampire genre itself and I have seen them all .. Alex O’Loughlin’s Mick has a presence unlike all the others and he leaves you wanting to see more ..
Nick Knight could be a close second to Mick but would never catch up to Mick ..

June 16, 2010 at 6:43 PM

Mick St. John without a doubt! Loved that show……I’m wishing it was still on!

June 16, 2010 at 11:40 PM

Mick St. John is the best, sexiest vampire!! Moonlight was ahead of it’s time…and Alex O’Loughlin ROCKS!!

June 17, 2010 at 6:03 PM

I miss Mick St. John. He’s the best vamp out there. Yeah, Moonlight was ahead of its time. :(

June 18, 2010 at 1:00 AM

Mick St John is the only vamp around that lights me up !!
He’s one of a kind, a truly gorgeous, sexy, vamp that makes a girls heart melt.

June 18, 2010 at 9:31 AM

Separating Angel and Angelus kind of isn’t fair – what’s interesting about the character is the duality and the history there! It’s not like vampires have nothing to do with the people they were.

June 19, 2010 at 9:26 AM

Never thought I’d say this, but deciding between Moonlight‘s Mick St. John and Buffy‘s Spike was actually a tuffy for me. Mick got my vote THIS TIME, but I gotta admit: Both of these walking dead turn my head and make my vessels throb!

June 19, 2010 at 5:45 PM

There are so many beautiful little boy vampires out there – but Mick St John was a grown up. He had every emotion on the planet and it all showed clearly in his eyes and on his face. A great actor, a complex and intense character – and not too bad to look at.

June 27, 2010 at 9:52 AM

Mick St. John! Definitely the sexiest vamp ever! Nothing against the “lost boys” generation of vampires, but Mick has a level of maturity and depth that the younger guys just haven’t yet achieved. He is the tormented soul that every woman wants to save!

June 27, 2010 at 3:43 PM

Kyle Schmid as vampire Henry Fitzroy of course! Fangs Down! ;)

July 8, 2010 at 11:40 PM

Mr.Fitzroy, the vampire of my life ;)
