TV on DVD – Sports Night, iCarly, and Deadliest Catch

The re-release of the first season from 'Sports Night' leads off a week that also includes the 'iCarly' iFight Shelby Marx special, 'Deadliest Catch', 'Ben 10', 'Judge John Deed', 'The Real Housewives' and 'Rhoda'.

Something of an odd duck to lead off the releases this week. The first season of Sports Night is available, again. It’s a curious release, considering that you can already get the big 10th Anniversary Collection. There is still value to be had with this new release. Along with 5 different cast commentaries, the set also includes new interviews with Aaron Sorkin, Tommy Schlamme, and the cast and crew. There is also a feature comparing Sports Night to Sports Center. The week also brings the release of iCarly‘s “iFight Shelby Marx.” I’ve still yet to see it, but it did huge numbers in its original run.

The re-re-release of SportsNight baffles me. The 10th Anniversary set was great, and justified its re-release status with additional commentaries and several more special features. As far as I can tell, what was released today is just half of the 10th Anniversary Set. The Sportscenter stuff was all on that, as was, I suspect, the Sorkin/Schlamme interviews.

I have the old crap version of Sports Night because I never thought they would ever bother with a rerelease never mind a rererelease.

I actually have the “For Your Consideration” VHS tape that was sent to Emmy voters, because I never thought the show would be available on DVD at all.
