HIMYM – Nothing Suits Me Like A Suit: lyrics!

Nothing Suits Me Like A Suit
by Barney Stinson

I know what you’re thinking
What’s Barney been drinking?
That girl was smoking hot

Yes I coulda nailed her
But no it’s not a failure
‘Cuz there’s one thing she is not

To score a ten would be just fine
But I’d rather be dressed to the nines
It’s a truth you can’t refute
Nothing suits me like a suit

Picture a world
where all the boys and girls
Are impeccably well dressed
That delivery guy
in the jacket and tie
That puppy in the double-breast

That ’80s dude in mutton chops
That baby with a lollipop
That lady cop who’s kinda cute
Nothing suits ‘em like a suit

Wingman I can wear
They’re oh so debonair
The perfect way to snare
a girl with daddy issues

In navy blue or black
Check out this perfect rack
I want to give them a squeeze

Oh really? Then answer these questions
If you please

What would you do if you had to choose
Between your suits and a pot of gold? Suits.

What would you say
If you gave your suits away
In return you’d never grow old? Suits.

What would you pick
One million chicks
Or a single three-piece suit? It’s moot.

What if world peace
Were within your reach … Abbadabada I’m gonna stop you right there. It’s suits. Come on, Lily. Get your head outta your ass.

Two! Three! Four!

Girls will go and girls will come
But there’s only one absolute
Every bro on the go needs to know
That there’s no accepted substitute

I’m sorry suits, let’s make amends
My Sunday best are my best friends
Send casual Friday down the laundry chute

‘Cuz nothing suits the undisputed oft-saluted suitor of repute
Like a …. wait for it …

Then again, she is pretty hot.

Anyone know where/when they’re going to have an mp3 of this somewhere that’s not iTunes? I don’t have iTunes and I’d really prefer to not have to download it if I don’t have to, but I really love this song.

For those who do use iTunes, the “Nothing Suits Me Like a Suit” music video is currently available for free download, in HD or SD. I’d also recommend Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel’s “Bank Dance” video from the movie (500) Days of Summer.

Does anyone now which song/musical the “Girls will go and girls will come. But there’s only one absolute” comes from? I Know I’ve heard it somewhere.. if anyone could help I’d be glad.

Yeah, I was wondering why the inverted “girls will go and girls will come” as opposed to “girls will come and girls will go”, since there doesn’t appear to be any rhyming or other purpose for that.

Just tried asking @HIMYM_CBS on twitter.

I’d be great if you could post their answer here, because I don’t use twitter ^^

i think thats rather easy to answer: girls come and go is a more negative term, whereas go and come is more positively attributed (especially in barneys world)

January 18, 2010 at 5:30 PM

can you beileve barneys gay!

January 19, 2010 at 3:59 PM

you mean neil patrick harris is gay? yep, he is. and I love him even more after that fact!

January 19, 2010 at 6:38 PM

Who *actually* wrote the song? It had a Webber-esque quality.

January 21, 2010 at 10:04 AM

I think they wrote it as ‘girls will go and girls will come’ because of the sexual meaning the word ‘come’ has because, well, it’s Barney, hehe ;-) I believe I read somewhere that the song was written by the creators of HIMYM, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. They also wrote the theme song with their band.

January 21, 2010 at 10:18 AM

Hehe just thought of this…the line is written where the things mentioned are in Barney’s order of priority from least to greatest: Girls going, girls coming, suits ;-)

March 18, 2010 at 5:39 PM

Am I the only person who has noticed that “Picture a world where all the girls and boys” should be “Picture a world where all the boys and girls” in the lyrics above?

March 20, 2010 at 8:10 AM

Man, all this time and I never caught that mistake. I fixed it. But if anyone else has that same typo, they likely lifted the transcription from here, since it’s a pretty huge coincidence they made the SAME mistake I did, and I did not copy it from elsewhere.

March 20, 2010 at 4:26 AM

mike.. i noticed that too.. and this is not the only site that seems to have made that ‘typo’. it is infact “all the boys and girls” and not the other way around…….

April 3, 2010 at 8:45 PM

Have you ever been there? What was that experience like?

April 20, 2010 at 4:02 PM

Barney <3

I was just thinking .. "That '80s dude in mutton chops".

Shouldn't it be "That '80s dude with mutton chops"? That's what I'm hearing, anyhow ;)

The dancing with the suits at the end really reminds me of the mustard song from once more with feeling (the musical ep of buffy) its very similar choreography.
