How Thursday night made me a crybaby

plainintheprodigy

I’m still thinking about Thursday night’s TV. Partially because it took me until yesterday to finish watching all of it,  and partially because it made me cry. Twice.

For the sake of full disclosure I should admit that it’s around that time of the month where I’m feeling a little more weepy than usual. (Other things that have recently made me cry: a poem, watching Dan in Real Life, watching America’s Sweethearts.) I mean, I’m not exactly bursting into tears left and right, I’m just… pre-disposed. And Thursday night’s television took that pre-disposition pony and rode it all around the park until I was sitting on my couch, swiping my eyes and going, “What the hell just happened?”

And why was it so awesome?

The fact that this Thursday’s Bones made me cry is kind of sort of understandable. I mean, Bones I don’t think has made me cry since the season finale where Zach was Gormagon’s apprentice, but it was a sad episode. This poor Amish kid just loved music! Not drugs or hookers, music. And he was torn up between everything he loved and knew and this gift. If his gift was for, like, entrepreneurship but on the flip side he destroyed the environment while realizing his full potential, that would not be tragic, and would understand why his Amish upbringing would frown on that. But his love was music. How can music hurt? His parents watching that video of their son, killed just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, was it for me. It was past midnight and I was sitting alone in my dark living room because everyone else was asleep, sobbing.

But what really surprised me was this week’s Community making me cry. Community! That show with Joel McHale on NBC’s comedy block! And I cried because of Abed and his dad, who’s played by the guy who plays Principal Figgins on Glee! Biggest disconnect ever! Abed’s video broke my heart, stomped on the pieces, and then ran away giggling. And on top of that, I liked Jeff and Brita together. In fact, I was rooting for them together. I think I have severely underestimated Community by a factor of roughly a bazillion.

I don’t even want to know what I’m going to do with myself this Thursday during the Jim/Pam wedding episode on this Thursday’s Office if this trend continues, but I would advise you, in these tough economic times, to invest in Kleenex, because I will probably be using a lot of them.

I love the fact ob Bones the guy just died for money. There was no other reason, no liars trying to cover up past loves or anything, it was just an old fashion murder for money. If he died for another reason the episode would have felt fake, but he was killed for money and that makes the episode shine.

OMG. I forgot about the Jim/Pam wedding. Definitely more tears.
