Don’t blame me, blame America (and Ade)

evantop4sytycdDon’t think I don’t see all of you, standing around and muttering, pointing at me. “This is all your fault!” you hiss. “You Kasprzaktivists put Evan in the finale, where he didn’t belong!”

To which I say — hold on a hot second, there. First of all, I don’t vote, because I’m way too lazy to do so. Second of all, even if I voted until my fingers fell off, it wouldn’t be enough to matter, because I am very lazy and have very lazy fingers.

But what I really want to say to this is: why on earth would you think he doesn’t belong? If this was a search for America’s  best dancer, I would agree that yes, Evan does not belong. But, as the ever-magnificent Cat Deeley reminds us every week, this is a search for America’s favorite dancer. And that is why Evan is still in the running.

Let’s look at this from an average American’s point of view. Of the remaining boys (Evan, Ade, and Brandon), you’ve got a definite case of “one of these things is not like the other.” Ade and Brandon are two huge, muscular, kind of bland contemporary dancers, and Evan is not. All performed similarly in their dances (Brandon slightly better than the others), but none stood out, no matter what the judges said, which leaves us judging their solos. And it was in the solos where Ade made his massive tactical error.

Honestly, I’m not sure what’s been saving Ade for so many weeks, besides that he’s just plain good, since he’s got zero personality on display to the camera, or during his dancing. To get into the finale he needed to differentiate himself from the others, and instead of doing his contemporary/hip-hop fusion he’s so good at, he did a very bland solo. Now compare that to Brandon’s solo to “Carmina Burana” where he did a belly flop onto the stage, or Evan’s usual brand of adorable Gene Kelly-esque moves, and Ade was pretty doomed.

So instead of blaming me, or Evan, blame Ade and his boring routine. Also, America.

Hey, I like Evan! During the group number with the three guys, I couldn’t take my eyes off of him. I think he’s a pretty great dancer and was glad he made it into the finals.

I like, and vote for Evan. The contempory dancers all bore me, so I usually vote for which ever other style dancer is still in the competition.
It would be great if Evan won. Then maybe Nigel would make more room for other styles. I thought it was awful when Evan and his brother were the last two to get into the top twenty and Nigel said they only had room for one of this style.
Go Evan!
