Reaper is as good as dead … or at least Sock is

Reaper

Yesterday FOX put out some show pick-up news that’s mixed with the good and the bad. First, let’s start with the good news. FOX picked up a new show titled Human Target, based on the DC comic book of the same name, and it’s got a terrific cast: Mark Valley and Chi McBride, for example. Sounds like a great premise too.

Now, the bad news. FOX also picked up a new series titled Sons of Tucson, which by itself is OK news but it’s who’s featured in the cast that stings: Tyler Labine, who currently plays Sock in CW’s Reaper.

I love Labine and he’s my favorite character on Reaper, right behind Ray Wise’s Devil. The part that stings, of course, is that this pretty much solidifies the fate of Reaper — it’s done, folks. There’s that teeny, tiny chance that the show’s going to Blow the Hatch on us and kill off Sock in the finale, but I highly doubt it. And even then, since Reaper‘s all about souls and the afterlife, it would make no sense to never see Sock again. This blows.

I was really hoping Reaper would make it at least another season and let things wrap up. I want to know what the contract with Sam’s dad was all about and why Sam is so special. I wanted to see more, dammit! It really looks like this is the end, but we’ll know for sure next week during the Upfronts.

I think most of us knew Reaper was done when the showrunners left for another network!

What really pisses me off is that Reaper and The Game, both most likely are going to be canceled have better ratings than 90210, The CW “flagship” show.

Yeah, I really don’t know why CW wouldn’t try to rebrand itself as the otherworldy network or something. Their top 2 ratings getters are Smallville and Supernatural, and when Reaper is above 90210, you’d think that would tell them something. When these networks get something into their heads, there’s no talking sense!

The showrunners didn’t leave. We got a note from them that they made sure to stay involved in Reaper, and they still are consultants. Also – for the millionth time, Tyler’s Reaper contract takes precedence. If Reaper’s renewed, he WILL be back. Although, I’m pulling for a summer renewal so that Tyler can do both shows.

I wish they would have Dawn Ostroff do a cameo on Reaper as an escaped soul and Sam gets to send the dumb bitch back to hell for getting rid of a good show so she can put her tween-girl retread unoriginal shit on the air that nobody gives a shit about.

Possible news from The Hollywood Reporter that ABC Studios might be in negotiations with local CW affiliates to syndicate a NEW SEASON of Reaper for Sunday nights! Write to your CW affiliate and tell them there’s a fanbase in your area and it would be a ratings boost for them on Sunday nights! Look up your CW affiliate here: https://www.cwtv.com/stations. Check reaperdmv.com for more ideas.

International viewers, you should write to your networks and affiliates too!

What a shame! This is really a great show, and, like you, Keith, I’m very curious to see things wrapped up. I wonder what’ll happen with that.

There’s still hope for Reaper!

ABC Studios is in talks with The CW’s affiliates to show Reaper on Sundays, after the network decided to give them that day back to do as they please.
