Kyle XY’s never-resolved cliffhanger

kyle-hanging

I really went into the series finale of Kyle XY with mixed feelings. The season started off with a bang for me, then fizzled a bit. Last week, though, while Jessi and Kyle were playing Cassidy, they played me too — I completely fell for their trick and it was awesome! So I was really looking forward to the finale, but knowing that it was a cliffhanger (hence the image of Kyle dangling above… I know, superbly clever) and that we weren’t going to get any closure made me feel sad.

So how’d it all play out? I loved the episode, but now I’m going to have to make the time to stalk the network to provide us with a TV movie for some closure. Heck, if they can make Au Pair 3, then they can make a Kyle XY movie, don’t you think?

OK — relationship stuff. As Kyle’s dark side grows, maybe he is really better suited for Jessi after all (although the scene with Jessi groping all of Kyle’s muscles was just dumb… no “spark” there if you ask me). Then again, Amanda showed some serious stones when she and Jessi took down Nate. Maybe Amanda’s got a little spark in her yet… sadly, we’ll never know. So which kiss did you like better — Kyle’s electrifying smooch with Jessi, or the sweet tender moment he shared with Amanda?

Onto the greater Latnok conspiracy. So last week’s episode certainly showed us that Cassidy was an evil S.O.B., or at least a murderer. Using the students to rebuild the pods, and now he’s onto blackmail, since he needs Kyle for his diabolical plan (cue evil laughter). We’ll never know just what he needed Kyle for: his brains, his DNA for the clones, or simply to keep the secret. Oh, and Cassidy and Kyle share the same Latnok-loving mother… interesting. Too bad that won’t get explored a little deeper.

I liked that Kyle’s dark side was coming out; I wish we had seen glimpses of it throughout the season rather than just in the last two episodes. All it really is showing us is that Kyle is getting more human, and that’s a good thing. Funny, this season brought out the humanity AND the super hero in Kyle… love that dichotomy.

So where do we go from here? We mourn what could have been, and we celebrate what we got to enjoy. And we can even hold out a little hope — maybe, please? — that we’ll get a TV movie to give us some closure. How’d you all feel about the series finale of Kyle XY?

Other things worth mentioning:

  • Josh and Andy on the webcam was cute. That Magda Apanowicz should have no problems moving onto bigger and better things.
  • Do you think that Amanda and Jessi will come to some sort of understanding, or at least a truce now that they’ve bonded? Oh wait — we’ll never know.
  • Jessi talking about weed and how she picked up all the terms from watching cable was cute.

Look: the last scene you’ll likely ever see of Kyle XY… I love the fierce Kyle!

although not a regular viewer of the show, i found abc family’s respond that they have no plan to wrap up loose ends in a tv movie…not even those pathetic webisodes…to be downright despicable. they canceled the show after the cliffhanger was filmed, and they don’t even pony up for a resolution for loyal fans. this is the problem with US tv business, yet they wonder why people don’t commit in watching shows anymore…when the networks themselves don’t. hopefully they wise up and film something, a scene or two, for the dvd. they owe it to the fans.

First “The Middleman” and now “Kyle XY.” Don’t count on any fantasy/genre shows to thrive on ABC Family.

How I feel: :`(

R.I.P. the best show on TV…

FYI for anyone who loved Kyle XY, check out Merlin (a BBCA/NBC show, currently between seasons 1 and 2), and Dexter (season 1 was AWESOME! Seasons 2 and 3 were both good, and season 4 should prove decent as well…)
