burnep15It was a cavalcade of guest stars on the second to last episode of Burn Notice’s second season. We learned Michael had a fiancĂ©. Didn’t see that coming (even though I saw the preview last week). You know what I mean. It was the standard Mike helps a client plot, but with an added, and welcome, twist. Frankly, the client sidebars have been a little stale for my taste as of late. It was refreshing to watch Michael aiding his former betrothed, Samantha, who is a professional thief. Did you really think he would fall for a “normal” girl? Of course you didn’t.

Samantha was played by Dina Meyer, the first of three sci-fi vets to grace the episode. You may recognize Dina from Star Trek: Nemesis as Commander Donatra and Starship Troopers (one of my faves) where she portrayed the sexy but tough, Dizzy Flores. This time out there were no spaceships to pilot or “bugs” to kill. Instead, she joined forces with Mike to rescue her son from an “evil son-of-a-bitch” named Brennan. I’ve always been a fan of Meyer; she gets better looking with age. Accompanying her in the evening’s festivities were two more familiar faces from the future fantasy genre. If you’re a loyal Burn Notice viewer, you already know who I’m referring to.

Carla, the veiled vixen who may or may not have burned Michael, made another memorable appearance. Her brownish locks might throw some off, but all you BSG addicts know her better as platinum blonde Six, the character that put actress Tricia Helfer on the map. I dig Carla a lot. She relishes toying with Mikey and is pretty damn good at it. And it’s becoming apparent that she knows more than she’s letting on. What would these spies be without their silly secrets? Oh yeah, boring.

Rounding out our trio of space trekkers was Michael Shanks reprising his role as Victor, a fellow toasted spy, who Mikey takes hostage by way of a disposable camera doubling as a stun gun. Clever and effective. Shanks cut his dramatic teeth portraying Dr. Daniel Jackson on Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis. Victor is a far cry from Dr. Jackson. I haven’t been able to get a read on Victor. He’s like Mike, except not as debonair, or smart. What his exact role is in Mike’s predicament remains a – you guessed it – mystery.

It must have been one wild and crazy set when they shot this installment. I imagine Meyer, Helfer, Shanks and Bruce Campbell crowded into Campbell’s trailer swapping sci-fi/horror tales while downing a few brews. Then Shanks turns to Bruce and asks him about “The Orb” from The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. “Just what the hell was that thing?” Shanks inquires. Old Brucey waves his finger and replies, “I haven’t had that much to drink Mikey-boy.” They all laugh. Good times, good times. I’ve really gone off on a tangent here.

Back to Burn Notice. Next week puts a bow on season two. Maybe we’ll finally get a look-see at the person who burned Mr. Westen. Probably not. Oh, one final tidbit about last night’s episode. Mike admitted to Fi he loves her. That’s all folks.

I LOVED this episode! Brennan (a/k/a “evil-son-of-a-bitch”) is a bad ass and I see a possibility of him returning in the future. I get your scenario of the sci-fi stars hanging out for brewskis, but I don’t think any of them were in scenes with each other so they might have not even crossed each other’s path considering how TV shows shoot. I don’t want to crush your imaginary dream though so dream away.

I’m just really glad they didn’t throw in the plot twist of Charlie being – or possibly being – Michael’s son. There’s enough complexity in this show already without soap opera drama thrown in. The writers certainly weren’t lazy on this installment – there were twists galore – but my favorite moment was Michael telling Fi he left Samantha because he loved Fi. Sigh. I guess a little soap opera touch is o.k. :-)

    • I agree with you about Charlie not being Mike’s son. Let’s find out who burned him first.

Please don’t dash my dream of the foursome swapping tales. It could’ve happened ;o)

Dina Meyer was also in Dragon Heart. I looooove her

The best part was when Samantha tells Michael “Is she talking about that thing we did in Saint Petersburg?”

    Michael: yeah…

*awkward look between Fi and Samantha”
