Tonight on the tube: NBC’s ‘Greatest Holiday Moments’ begin

8:00p/7:00 Central

  • Programming is hard, and especially around the holiday season. So NBC, who has more trouble than usual of late with quality programming, has put together a series of specials spotlighting the best holiday moments in various categories. The specials will run through Christmas and start tonight with Greatest Holiday Moments: TV & Film Countdown. These are to be followed by: Songs of the Season, TV’s Merriest Christmas Moments, TV’s All Timem Christmas Songs and a ‘Hilarious Home Video Countdown.’ That’s setting a pretty high expectation putting ‘Hilarious’ right there in the title. There’s a reason Rosie’s Variety Show didn’t say Rosie’s Hilarious Variety Show. False advertising is a serious crime.
  • Cartoon Network has a new Batman: The Brave and the Bold, featuring Aquaman, followed by a jellyfish attack on The Secret Saturdays. They also don’t give episode details on their site. MyNetwork TV is riding the ongoing success of WWE SmackDown! to an unprecedented ratings victory over The CW last week.
  • FOX still wants to know Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?, while Melinda tracks down a girl who’s been missing for 12 years on CBS’s Ghost Whisperer. National Geographic counters with the Dog Whisperer in case GW fans are easily confused.
  • ABC has the live-action Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, while The CW brings you Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer. Nickelodeon has Merry Christmas, Drake & Josh! reuniting the entire cast for this holiday special.

  • Discovery has a Survivorman where he must fend for two people, while Animal Planet has the Whale Wars crew heading back to Melbourne for repairs through a storm. TLC teaches us again What Not to Wear, while FOX makes sure you Don’t Forget the Lyrics!
  • Nico and Kirby reach a relationship crossroads while adjusting to life with a baby on the transplanted Lipstick Jungle. CBS has a Numb3rs repeat featuring a modern day Robin Hood.
  • Nute Gunray’s escorts must face an assassin on Cartoon Network’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars, followed by Ben going into the Null Void on Ben 10: Alien Force. The CW offers up a holiday animated repeat with The Story of Santa Claus.
  • E!’s True Hollywood Story takes a look at Celine Dion while the Travel Channel offers up their own supernatural investigation series with Ghost Adventures looking at a haunted penitentiary. Biography’s Mobsters looks at Vegas mobster Tony Spilotro.
  • Sci Fi has the crew of Stargate Atlantis discovering a Wraith crew strickenwith a disease caused in part by Dr. Keller’s gene therapy.

10:00p/9:00 Central

  • While Dateline NBC examines the case of a US college student who’s been charged with murdering her British housemate while in Italy, ABC’s 20/20 interviews Elizabeth Vargas, looks at murdered newscaster Anne Pressly and examines this taxpayer bailout mode we seem to be in. For more general news coverage, you can always watch BBC World News America.
  • Reality includes TruTV’s Forensic Files, TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress and History’s Shadow Force, looking at a mysterious boat off the coast of Liberia near the US Embassy.
  • An underwater mission goes awry on Sci Fi’s Sanctuary. On USA’s The Starter Wife, the police investigate Pappy’s disappearance.
  • Kenny questions why he got involved with Inez while his marriage continues to crumble on Starz’ Crash.
