Tonight on the tube: The 10 most fascinating people of 2008

  • For those who don’t know, Chowder is an animated series on Cartoon Network that premiered as the #1 new show on the network about a year ago. Now, as its second season is under way, it’s time for the first ever half hour Chowder Holiday special. That’s followed by The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack
  • Meanwhile, BBC America is taking us inside the Dragon’s Den for more invention madness. Discovery takes us into the world of timber on How Stuff Works, while TruTV looks at more Speeders.
  • At 8:15p/7:15 Central, the NFL Network offers up another Thursday spectacle with the Raiders (3-9) taking on the Chargers (4-8). Talk about an amazing and relevant match-up! In fact, fifteen minutes later, you can flip over to HBO for the season finale of De La Hoya/Pacquiao 24/7.
  • A list item leads Randy and Earl into the wild to find an old friend who’s living there on NBC’s My Name is Earl. Then, on Kath & Kim, Kath gets drawn into the world of life coach, and guest star, Maya Rudolph when wedding planning stress gets to be too much.
  • It’s the fallout of Randy’s ouster on the one-week delayed Survivor: Gabon. I know it was on last week, but clip shows don’t count! Ugly Betty teams up with Amanda for an article for Mode’s website on ABC.
  • It’s repeats for FOX and The CW with Kitchen Nightmares and Smallville, the latter featuring Clarks’ first day at the Daily Planet. MyNetwork TV goes with Driving Miss Daisy.

9:00p/8:00 Central

  • Mary McDonnell continues her lauded guest run on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, as Cristina must give up her first solo surgery and find her replacement.
  • Cartoon Network books another stay at Total Drama Island, while the drama unfolds at Dunder-Mifflin over a $4300 budget surplus that must be spent or it will be lost in next year’s budget on NBC’s The Office. That one’s followed up by Don Geiss coming out of his coma and declaring his choice for GE’s CEO while Liz determines whether or not to go to her high school reunion on 30 Rock.
  • History’s putting up a new Gangland on a special night so it can go up against modern day gang warfare in the squared circle on Spike’s TNA: Impact.
  • CBS’s CSI: Crime Scene Investigation discovers a link between a new murder and one from 50 years ago. FOX and The CW are repeats again with another Kitchen Nightmares on FOX and the episode where all the people they couldn’t save come back to haunt Sam, Dean and Bobby on Supernatural.

10:00p/9:00 Central

  • While the Discovery Channel is offering up a special on When Nature Strikes, BET is countering with a look at Mutulu Shakur on American Gangster, best known for successfully robbing a Brinks armored truck in NYC.
  • TLC is all new with LA Ink, while MTV brings 50 Cent: The Money and the Power and VH1 is back in session with Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. Over on ABC, it’s a countdown as Barbara Walters Presents the 10 Most Fascinating People of 2008 and you can watch as once again I am completely looked over for the likes of Sarah Palin and Will Smith.
  • It’s car accidents, Neela in court, and Morris and Banfield snowed in up in Nebraska on NBC’s ER. On CBS’s Eleventh Hour, it’s a mystery when college kids in Oklahoma start dying of a condition seen generally in scuba divers.
  • At the half hour, you can flip to Comedy Central and catch The Sarah Silverman Program, where she tries to invent a new slang word.

11:00p/10:00 Central

  • With It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia done for awhile, Testees goes back-to-back for the next three weeks to fill the time slots. In the first one, the boys test out chastity belts while in the second one Peter winds up fully paralyzed and in Ron’s care.
