red wine

I don’t ask for much these days. As a mom of an almost-five-year-old who really, really likes me to put him to bed, I don’t get out much. So after a long week, when Friday night finally rolls around, I drink.

I know what you’re thinking, but work with me here. I’m not talking vodka in a secret flask inside my semi-attractive yet hefty mom purse. The perfect wine to match the delectable meal Keith and I have prepared for ourselves, to unwind and satiate — that’s what I’m talking about.

lamb-chops

One of our favorite meals is lamb chops, usually with a side of dirty quinoa (you know, quinoa with “stuff” in it) on a bed of greens or baby spinach or something to that effect. It is easy enough to prepare mid-week, yet always seems to feel like a special meal.

However, it is one of those meals that we  just can’t drink water to accompany. There’s something about the juicy red lamb (medium rare, thank you!) that screams for a Cline Zinfandel, or a Bogle Old Vine Zinfandel; I’d settle for any old crappy Zinfandel if my other choice was water! So tack on the calories for the glass or two of wine… sigh….

Is it just our wine-centric household, or do you find it difficult to drink water with lamb chops too? Maybe you love a zin or something else, so take our poll and elaborate in the comments.

What do you drink with your lamb chops?
